The Kingsail Resort is in Marathon and is affordable. During the Fantasy Fest, rooms are very pricey in Key West, so we've been going to the Kingsail for years. It is an easy drive to Key West. The Fantasy Fest is "wilder" than New Orleans at martigras or so I've been told. The date was moved to this time frame, so that it would correspond to the last weekend of the fest. It should prove to be an intersting weekend.
My son Tony and I are going to try and make it this year but only on Saturday. I know it's early, but do we have a time table yet as to when we will start heading down to the southern most point in the U.S.?

I haven't heard of any specfic time. We usually head out sometime Friday to get down to Marathon early pm. We usually take off for Key West around 10 am Saturday just to find a parking place in Key West. I was planning on taking a non Fiero so I could take some passengers to Key West.
I just got off the phone with the Kingsail. The room rates for that weekend are $95.00 & $129.00. You also better book your room ASAP! These rooms sell out really quick the closer we get to Fantasy Fest. Within the next month these rooms will be gone! They also told me that some of our members booked their rooms for this year while we were there last year. They booked them for the week prior so if you booked your room for this year, last year, you need to call them and change the dates.
Driving from Marathon to Key West and finding parking is a nightmare to say the least. I have been to Fantasy Fest 5 Times over the last 7 years. Your best bet for parking is to park at the Key West high School and taking the shuttle bus to Duval Street. The only dissadvantage to this is... The last bus leaves Duval Street to go back to the High School at Midnight. If you miss the last bus you will have to take a cab to get back.
Fantasy Fest is flat out CRAZY. There is no better way to descibe it. Saturday night is parade night and it is Elbow to Elbow people. If you do not like crowds then this is not the place for you. If public nudity offends you or makes you uncomfortable then this is not the place for you. During the day on Saturday it isn't that bad but once the sun goes down the madness begins. It goes on this way all through the night. Fantasy Fest makes Mardi Gra look like a kiddie park. Wall to wall boobs and body painting. While at Fantasy Fest a couple years ago, I spoke to a guy who was there for his first time. He told me that he had been to Mardi Gra 10 years in a row and Fantasy Fest is a 1000 times better. If you plan on buying beads to give out, I suggest you purchase them online. There are numerous sites online that sell them. Just do a search on Fantasy Fest Beads. Buying them at Fantasy Fest can get pretty expensive. Actually it can get pretty expensive online too but it is a lot cheaper than buying them in Key West.

The initial meeting place is at the rest area on I-95, just south of Palm Bay Friday about 8:30 am. Then we'll. drive down to south Florida and meet others.

Frank humiliated me into taking my Fiero. I'm a little hesitent at posting some of the photos as the costumes were ahhhh lacking in many instances or in questionable taste. Some may not be family safe. Holloween gone wild and politically incorrect.
