CENTURY CRUISE CELEBRATES THE BEGINNING OF GM’S SECOND CENTURY AT 2008 WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE Cruise Showcases Classic GM Cars and Trucks from the Last 100 Years
DETROIT, August 05, 2008 - Woodward Avenue has a special spot in the history of General Motors. Corvettes, GTOs, Camaros, Firebirds, Cadillacs and other GM automotive icons have left an indelible mark on the soul of Michigan’s most legendary pavement. During the 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise, GM will celebrate the cars and enthusiasts who drive, restore and treasure the machines that have made the Motor City proud during the past century.
General Motors’ Dream Cruise activities begin on Saturday, August 16, at 7:30 a.m. More than 100 GM classic and iconic vehicles will travel in parade formation up Woodward Avenue during the GM Century Cruise. Lead by an E85 ethanol powered Corvette ZO6, cars and trucks from every era of GM’s history will travel from the foot of Woodward Avenue at the GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center and drive north through the heart of Detroit to the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and its surrounding suburbs.
“This event is truly a celebration of GM’s 100 years and kicks off the month leading up to the launch of our second century on September 16,” said Bill O’Neill, GM executive director of Global Communications Operations. “What makes it very special and significant is that the majority of the vehicle owners in this cruise are GM employees and retirees from around the country. We are excited to have them take part in this historic drive.”
From the car that shined the brightest to finding out who got the jump in a stoplight drag race, Woodward Avenue has always been about “bragging rights.” As part of the GM Century Cruise, GM adds a new twist on Woodward bragging rights and will crown a “top cruiser” from the cars and trucks participating in the Century Cruise.
Each cruiser will be assigned a number, which can be found on http://dreamcruise.gmnext.com. Fans can vote for their favorite car by texting GM and the assigned number to 466398 (GMnext) between August 6, 2008, and August 16, 2008, at 6 p.m. For example, to vote for car number one, text GM1 to 466398. Voters can vote for their favorite car as often as they’d like. The announcement of the winner will be made Saturday evening.
General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world’s largest automaker, has been the annual global industry sales leader for 77 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 266,000 people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM manufactures its cars and trucks in 35 countries. In 2007, nearly 9.37 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling. GM’s OnStar subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security and information services. More information on GM can be found at www.gm.com.
Thanks Mark, I was inside running the GM Heritage Center Show for the 25th and I did not have time to take any pictures. I would love to have some pictures of my car at the GMHC. If any one would like to E-Mail me some at (k4shad@comcast.net) I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ken Michigan Fiero Club

One of our very own, Ken Shadlak, was selected to be part of the 'GM 100 Car Parade' in commemoration of GM 100 year anniversary. The Parade will take place this Saturday August 16th at the Woodward Dream Cruise. The parade route will start at the Renaissance Center at 7:30 a.m. and will go 22 miles up Woodward to where the cars will be parked at the 3 GM Sites that will be located around Woodward and Maple Road in Birmingham.
There has been a 'Top Vote Getter' contest set up in conjunction with the parade. The winner who gets the most votes will be featured with Dick Purtan on Channel WXYZ Channel 7 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening August 16th.
People can vote as often as they like by texting GM86 to 466398. The vote ends on 6:00 on the 16th
Also, being shown on Channel 7, there will be three very important shows relating to GM and the Dream Cruise The first will be on Friday night from 8 - 9 PM . Channel 7 will have a special program with interviews with key GM executives, and designers who have helped shape GM's products over the years. The special will also include historical highlights of GM. The second feature will be exclusive coverage of the 100 Car Parade of GM vehicles going up Woodward from the Renaissance Center. This will run from 8:00 - 10 AM on Saturday August 16. The third will be on coverage of the cruise from 7:00 - 9:00 PM on that Saturday night of the 16th. This will be just one ways to join in celebrating GM's long standing heritage.
This could be a good thing for the Fiero. I beleave if a Fiero would "WIN" it could bring some renewed interest back in GM also younger people that may not know about the car.
Thanks for your support.
