Yep.....it's a 2nd gen. RX-7 ('86-'92). I wish there was a video of the time I was involved in a police chase with my '88 GT.......that would be fun to watch!

If it was a Fiero it could have been Lloyd testing a new 3800 SC III swap on a customers car...
Hopefully the fiero would have gone faster than 80 MPH. How pitiful! If you're going to run from the police, it should be mandatory that triple digit speeds are involved.

It probably looks like a Fiero at one point because the HPD had already tried a pit manuever and put a dent in the rear quarter, thus popping/exploding the hatchback window.
The chase ended on the Freeway in front of the body shop that is restoring my Fiero. They too, thought it was a Fiero at first glance.
If you're gonna run, run dab-nab-it, don't just pu$$y foot it around!

Sorry this is one of my pet peeves. Lisa gets a laugh out of all the Cop Shows. But crap like, "This High Performance Sports Car" They are talking about a Honda Civic. Or "This Truck with a massive engine and high horsepower" referring to a late 70's Chevy pickup that appears to be stock. Then saying speeds are reaching an amazing 70mph. I mean my god, where is this guy from Egypt or something. 70mph is not even cruising speed around here. If you are doing 70 on the highway you are getting passed on all sides.
How come they never show Real Cars with Real Drivers. I wanna see some guy with a hopped up sports car that can do 140mph walk away from a cop car. Is it they can't catch them, or can't stay close enough to them to get good video? Do the cops just give up on all really high speed cars and let them all get away.
It just pisses me off, having them make crap cars sound like they are really dangerous speed demons. Hell I even heard them describe an early 80's Dodge Cargo van as having a high performance V8 motor in it. Give me a freaking break.
By that account, my work truck is a Hot Rod. (BB Chevy 454, 4spd Auto and 5.XX rear gears in the back) Empty weight is 12,600lbs, loaded is around 25,000lbs. Only problem with the truck, it is red lining at 75mph in top gear on the highway.

I was watching the chase online while at work, and the RX7 was doing a very good job. He made some good manuvers through tight spaces. There was no way he could have gotten much higher speeds because of all the traffic.

Real or not.... it's still television. Gotta make it as exciting and dramatic as possible so you will watch channel 3's coverage of it, as opposed to channel 4's.
One thing I have always found interesting is the reaction of civilian motorists to emergency vehicles in the u.s. (or lack of). Here, when sirens are approaching from the rear... we get the heck outta the way. I have very rarely witnessed that south of the boarder.

My son called me that morning to tell me a Fiero was being chased by the police. I told him to record it so I can watch it when I got home.
After seeing the video and that the back window was busted out and you can see the tops of the strut towers I knew it wasn't a Fiero. It didn't help matters much the the Chicago reporter first said sports car, then said it was a FIAT!, then corrected herself and said it was a Fiero. So much for investigative reporting!!!
I thought it was a Porsche 944, but I forgot about the second gen RX7....good call!
I was upset that they were smearing the Fiero name for no reason>
