Going this weekend to look at this car at a local ( to her, its 2 hours away for me ) junk lot for a friend that wants a fiero. want to make sure its not rusted away underneath or unsafe. ( and besides, when she gets tired of it in a few years it may end up in my driveway )
The dealer says its an 85, but its blue, which doesn't make sense to me.. And wouldn't a formula have dual exhaust and manual transmission? And since when does a V6 aato get 35mpg? Or is this just a repainted SE with a Formula sticker? ( i know its hard to tell in pictures.. ill know more when i go see it )
Supposedly it has about 50k miles on it, and she said it started and ran fine, but didn't take it out ( we will do that saturday when i go with her ). Figured even if fake it would be worth 1000 in cash to the guy ( he's got 1500 on the window ).

I would bet the ranch that that car is an 87 coupe with a 4 cylinder motor and a set of bogus formula stickers. If it's a factory blue Formula then we would have to re-write the history book.
Formula's did come with auto, so that doesn't tell you anything. Those are not the correct wheels for a Formula either. That single exhaust, (on the fascia) only came on the 87. The 88s had dual cutouts even on the 4 cylinder cars.
I just noticed that it also has the 4 cylinder gauge cluster, lacks the aux gauge cluster so I'm 99.999% sure that is an 87 coupe and NOT a Formula.

It's not a Formula. The front offsets are all wrong. If a Formula (or any 88 for that matter) had the deeper dish mesh wheels on the front, like then ones in the pics, they would stick out probably another inch. I'm guessing it's an 87 coupe as well. (If it's an 85, it's had the later fascias swapped on.) Pop the (front) trunk and look at the knobs on the headlight motors. If they're nearly two inches across and have two holes in the top, they're earlier (84-86) motors. If they have smaller, tapered knobs, they belong to an 87 or 88.

looks like their poorly painted, or consistently dirty.
From the picture it looks like paint ,but spray painted wheels was the least of my concern. If its mechanically sound and they will go under 1grand it should be ok for her to get as a weekend driver.

I added the' Formula' stickers to my doors, and added an 88 front fascia to my 86 coupe. Its not hard to clone one up. I have the auxliery gauges with the 120 MPH speedometer also. Mine came with the auxilery gauge package, or some one added it and all of the fixins to the car . I have removed the dash once, so they did it factory style if it was transplanted. Joe Crawford Texas
