So like any good Fiero owner I pull my ebrake on occasion to keep the back adjusted. Well I pulled it today and popped it loose. I drove a mile to Wendy's for lunch just now and got out of the car to see my passenger side rear wheel smoking like it had a pack a day habit. Sheesh, good thing it was raining and I hit a few puddles on the way there. So I ate my Bacconator, then pulled and popped the ebrake a few times. Jacked up the car and gave the rear wheels a good spin. Stuck cable that jimmyed loose when I pulled the ebrake handle a few more times. That sucked, if it wasn't wet out that thing might have been on fire cause it was hot!!!

I don't think the cables are that bad. I repalced mine as a PM a few years back. Cables are a wear item so with over 20 years of use I am not suprized to hear of a failture.
Heck the ebrake went south on my Silverado which is only 6 years old. I'm not bothered by that failure either.

Hmmmm...still seems kinda stuck, or I fried my bearing with all of that heat. I just drove the 15 miles home in the rain and it's not burn up hot but that wheel is warmer than the other rear wheel. Also I have a wonderful shudder when I brake now...warped rotor. Brake job here I come, of course it is supposed to rain all week. Also those rear calipers are a pain in the pooper. I hate doing the rear brakes, I just did them 6 months ago. Oh well maybe it is time for new calipers, lines, rotors, and pads all around.

Just a side note on the E-brake cables. If you ever use yours and it won't release completely, go to backside right in the middle where the cables hang lowest, and give a few tugs on it. I found that out the hard way after mine wouldn't completely release after using it. Quick fix that will keep you going until you replace it, or at least it worked for me.

...except on the 88's - the cable runs through the front of the cradle...

i hafta adjust or just replace all my ebrake cable parts and equalizer. for a added safety measure, i have some "borrowed" planks of wood from lowes to keep my toy in its place. oh, and it in reverse too. i really dont like the idea of leaving a car in gear to be used as a form of brake.
