Okay so after learning the hard way that my mechanic is overpriced and doesn't know a helluva lot about fieros i've decided that maybe i should take my 85GT to someone else to give her a heart transplant or rather to slap a fresh 2.8 in her. lol
What happend is the guy i bought it from wasn't terribly honest about just how long the car had been sitting. As a result there was much built-up crud chilling on the heads. So much "crud" indeed that one cyl actually froze so i had to get the heads machined. this cost around 1250$ including labor. and now mr. mechanic says that there's more wrong with the engine ... so much more money would need to be thrown away. . .
So instead of going back to him to get a new/newer engine put in. i decided that i'd at least TRY you Fiero guys first and see if there are any Tucson Fiero people that have the tools and time to help me out with taking out the old and putting in the new?
i will be able to compensate a little cash for your troubles. And hell ... i'll buy McDonalds. (that's quick cheap fiero working food. for those uninformed) i don't know how much just yet because it kind of depends on how much i get an engine for. but i have a few in sight. one with only 17K mi. and i might put the machined performance heads from the old 2.8 (never reinstalled) into the new eng.
