Bolts right up. As for the best, I guess that's a matter of opinion. The 96 engine has (I believe) reworked heads and ports and some other minor stuff but you cannot do the 'use a rear exhaust manifold on the front trick' with the 96 engine.
there's some fabrication to do but it's not too bad provided you got access to a welder. Not much in the way of any form of kits for the install though so you are on your own. Hardest part is probably the exhaust, lots of options on how to route the pipes etc, depends on what you want to do and skill or access to $$ and people with the skills !
Erik on here will mate your Fiero harness to the 3.4's for some more $$ if you don't like electrikery stuff !
Darth Fiero and others I think will burn you an eprom for the ECM.
I had a 95 in mine, bolted to a 5 sp issuzu. It was great (till I wrecked the car). long read on my swap on my web site (link in sig below).
91-93 engines came in manual and auto form. 94 on was auto only. you can use an earlier manual ecm with the later auto engine if you install a manual eprom into it or you can try to 'fake' out the auto signals if you plan to use a manual tranny with an auto ecm. Later (auto) ecm is supposed to give better performance and gas milage but I'd say you probably would not notice the difference.
