So I am sitting at home. Winter slowdown at work has put me at home for the time being. I get a call from a guy that found me online. Says he had an 87GT that he put over $14,000 into and then simply one day decided he did not want it anymore and traded it in on a new Truck. He then proceeds to tell me that he has some "left over" parts that were never installed on the car. Says if I come out and take the lot of it, I can simply have it. I get these kinda calls on a semi regular basis, usually just junk parts that end up going to the scrap. However he said he had some injectors. Now I was getting ready to get a set of old ones I had kicking around cleaned up and install them in my 88GT. So I tell him I will come out and grab the stuff. Even if it is all junk, it gives me a good reason to take my Fiero out for a drive. Its roughly 75km each way. (Just short of 100 miles round trip)

I get out there and see a bunch of used rad hoses, cleaned up rad supports and some decent GT tips. He then hands me a small tool box. Pop it open and there sits the diamonds in the ruff. I had heard rumors of these, but never actually thought anyone had bought any. I quietly closed it back up, loaded everything into the trunk, thanked him and went on my way. I called up a fellow Fiero nut that works at the local GM Dealership parts counter and read him the part number. He said I am not going to believe the price. $352 EACH. With local 14% sales tax, the total would be over $2400 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost passed out.

I don't know why these are worth so much. However they are Brand New, OEM Fiero injectors. I know my 88GT has the needle type and not the disc type injectors so these will be a drop in. They are complete with all the O-rings, and even new clips. There are plastic caps over the ends, however I removed the caps for photo purposes.

Sometimes good things can happen even when you are having a bad day. (on a side note, to try and make Karma (sp) happy. I got a call from a fellow club member later in the evening. He had thrown an alternator belt along side the highway. A friend had brought him a new belt, but they could not install it. So I grabbed my tools, drove out in the rain in the dark, and replaced the belt for them along side the road. (he is a new Fiero owner and does not yet know how to do things)

Here are the pics of the new injectors.

Well I got them installed, the car runs beautifully. Idle is much smoother, that odd miss is finally gone. I installed them Friday morning and drove it around Friday and Saturday putting a fair bit of mileage on it. I started with 3/4 of a tank and remarkably I still have a 1/4 of a tank left. I have yet to do any real testing of gas mileage but it does seem to have improved. Oddly enough, WOT does not seem to have changed much. Maybe the old ones were fine at wide open, but were leaking enough at idle that it was just causing it to run poorly and get bad gas mileage. I spend a great deal of time in stop and go traffic. I still have an issue with the fuel pressure dropping as soon as I turn the key off. Watts believes that the regulator is fubar. So I will swap that out next week and see where it goes from there. I deleted the cold start injector when I redid the motor so I know it is not that.

Oh well I am happy to report that the new injectors are working beautifully.

Lucky dog . The value of fuel injectors is amazing. People seem to be willing to get rid of used ones and take nothing for them, even though they are VERY expensive new. Here's another thread:

I have a small tub full of injectors and fuel rails. Even I know you can buy refurbished injectors on E-Bay for under $100 heck I bought my 19# injectors for $60 on ebay. I don't know why new costs so much more than professionally cleaned and rebuilt ones. Locally a set of reman injectors is only $200. However to find a set of "new" injectors was a treat for me.

A few years back (well, more then a few) ,before I was a member of Pennocks, I'd posted on the old e-mail list looking for the fuel rail for a 2.8 cold start injector. You sent it to me ... free of charge- just to be cool. Didnt even know me.. See... It's al about the Karma.. lol
