I did mine, didn't see another how to, so I decided to throw this together for all you guys. These are 1984 Fisher Body door sills and tabs. I got them off madess (thanks man) but the drivers side was damaged. The sills are actually two peices, a black peice with some cut out then, a grey piece pressed into the black, so the colors go all the way through. As you can see mine were a bit torn up.

clean off all the dust and give them some good clearcoat, I used outdoor rust-oleum to seal them in.

after this i went back and sanded the imperfections out and used higher gloss testors model clear coat for a nicer finish, plus I ran out of rust-oleum.

I just noticed that trim is off, hmm next time I see my car I will haveto fix that.

May seem like a useless thread, but I decided to share, and show you guys what I came up with. Thanks for looking

Thanks for the How-To.

Very helpful. I may have to go do that to mine. They look like crap after 22 years on a daily driven car.

Would a buffing compund help get them a little shinier? I have no idea how shiny they are supposed to be, but when I redo the ones in my car, I want them to JUMP out and make everything look nice.

Does the white design not come off?
How far can you sand before it will come off, or damage them?
Thanks for the How-To.

The white/grey part runs the whole way through, you can sand all day long. You can't lose the grey. Lemme sketch what I mean on paint... lol

looks good, maybe insted of painting them with clear, you could go finer on the sand paper and then buff them, then you dont have to worry about paint peeling, ect....

Thats the best way to do it, but when I did it, I only had like 60 and 150 grit.

here is a really basic general idea behind this. The grey is pressed through the whole peice, this is a "cross section".

Over time the black gets nicked up and smudged over the grey, so if you sand down, you remove the smudges, and reveal new grey plastic.
