I'm going to assume that you mean on a non-sunroof car chop top, instead of maintaining that hole in the stock size you would instead shorten it up and maintain more structural roof behind the sunroof area instead?
I don't think you would have more or less cutting or welding, with or without a sunroof, but I see your point that if the roof gets smaller and you have this big hole in it of the same size as before then I have less structure there after the chop.
True, but Archie beefs up the remaining roof and pillars quite a bit in the process. You would have the crush the car to prove it, but I'm betting the roof of the chop top is as strong as the stock roof, if not stronger.
