I just had the SS weighed on a certified truck scale in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin. It is the same place that Archie had his weighed to show the difference between a stock and V8 car. My car is a ZZ3 crate motor with aluminum heads and intake, 4 speed manual, no AC, no cruise, manual everything, no sunroof or T tops, stock 14" "tech" wheels. I just topped it off before I did it too. I'll have the check other threads but what do other stock '86 SE v6s cars weigh? I've always estimated 2800 pounds and it rang up with a full tank of gas at 2760. I'm very happy with this and all I need now is a dyno sheet and I'll have all my performance figures on paper. Heres the slip. Anyone have a stock '86 SE with similiar options and know how much it weighs?

This is the best info I have.

1176 kg (2590 lb) to 1265 kg (2790 lb) depending on the model. Mine is the 85GT 4-speed similar to the 86SE without A/C and cruise. Very similar weight to the 84

Mine is a little less though, due to eliminating the headlight motor mechanisms, removing the MPFI system, heat shields, snorkel intake and reworking the exhaust.

You've done really well considering your mods and should be congratulated. How about some pics?

To TD37: Nice! Your pounds-to-HP ratio is going to be in the single digits.

That is without me in the car. I weigh 190. I was wondering how they figure out power to weight. Is it engine hp, or to the wheel hp? I'm sure my motor makes 375hp at the crank. If my calcs are correct that would mean 7.36 pounds per ponny. And the new issue of Motor Trend has the new 911 GT3 RS at 7.74 pound per horse power. I want to switch carbs and intake so I probably won't get it dyno'd until next summer when I get that stuff done. I will say that I took everything factory off the firewall that I could including the evap system and everything that I wouldn't need for a carb'd V8. Unfortunately, my optima red top is in the trunk area which I kinda regret. I should have just ditched the spare tire and put it up there. I plan on doing C5 Z06 brakes which means I can't fight a spare over the brakes. Oh well, maybe some day. Here are some pics of the swap and the car. There is still a lot to do, they are never done ya know.

Right now i've got the bowtie manifold that came on the ZZ3 out of the crate and a tuned 1406 600 edelbrock. For a carb I'm going with the ZZ4 Crate Demon 650 vac. sec. / elec. choke. For a manifold, I'm still trying to figure out what will fit. In a perfect world I would use an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap. But I don't think it will fit. I've also heard good things about the Weiand stealth intakes. This winter I'll pull my manifold off and get it measured so I know exactly how high I can go.

Height is a real problem. That is how I ended up with a Mopar Sixpack scoop. Of course the V8 is lower anyway.

I used the Corvette style dropped-side air cleaner, however there are other low profile choices for that.

Here is my "baby SBC". The air cleaner took a 1" spacer to clear the distributor

This is another air cleaner that will work with a little notching on deck rail

The Demon is a pretty sweet carb. Nice choice.

TD37-
Beautifull car!
Are you coming down to FIERORAMA next weekend? I'd love to see the car in person. We're working on my sons 84SE - small block conversion, would be a real insperation for him!
NICE JOB!!

hhhhmmmmmm...I've got nothing going on next weekend... I've heard of it but never really looked into it. Maybe if the weathers nice I'll cruise down there. The small block swap can be very frustrating. Many times during the build I just had to walk away for a few days, a couple times I threatened to push it out on the yard and put a for sale sign on it. But I battled through and I couldn't love the car more. There are still a lot of things I want to do to it but the hardest part is done. Every time I take it out I get compliments and people talk to me and want to look at it. My friends tell me they have never seen anything like the people around my car at car shows and it sure draws them over. Stick with it and you will be rewarded. If you come down make sure you say hello.

Actually it won't work. I had one of them when I built my carb'd 3.4L and you would need to cut into the firewall/rear window to make it fit.
Tina uses one at shows on her V-8 and she hacked off the firewall side then welded a plate over it.
You also cannot put it on sideways due to the thermostat housing and distributor.
The only other way would be at an angle to the line of the engine but then you have to reconfigure the throttle cable.

I had my 86 SE, V6, 4spd, n A/C on corner weight scales (accurate) and full of fuel, with me on board, it was 2906lbs, -185 for me, and you get 2721lbs. At that time it had the 15" GT wheels with 225/50-15 tires.

My car weighs 2830 lbs with a ZZ4 and 4-spd. It has power everything, a sunroof, stereo system the larger 11.25" rotors, 16" wheels, wrap-around spoiler (which is slighly heavier than the stock wing), trans am scoop, warber hood, larger Optima battery, larger sway bars, 4-core radiator, oil cooler, and 215/50R16 tires.

So that probably makes up the 70 lbs difference.

Stock my car weighed an even 2800 lbs with an auto transaxle and A/C. The A/C was removed during the swap.

thats really light, I think I have been overestimating my friends swap weight. I know my auto 3800 swap is still tipping scales at 2900ish though, these dang autos weigh close to 150lbs more wet than the manuals.

The 3800SC is also heavier than a SBC with aluminum heads and intake.

The Fiero Getrag weighs about 90 lbs.
The 4t65e is about 200 lbs. I'm not sure if these are wet or dry weights, though. I read them in an old High Performance Pontiac mag.
The 4t80e is about 300 lbs.

Hey Archie. Nice to have kind words from the master. I am planning to come down this weekend to take in the Fiero experience south of the border. I look forward to checking out you're new place. Any chance there would be room up front at the Archie shop for a Fiero SS? Thanks to all the kind words folks, I never thought this thread would get this much action.

Also a little update on my induction, I just won a ZZ4 650 Demon on Ebay the other day for $280 with a braided dual feed kit. It won't be on for this weekend but I'm on my way. This won't be one of those cars that looks the same everytime you see it. Actually, I already put custom shaved sail panels on it since the picture I posted, oh well.
