Which MSD distributor works for a 2.8L Fiero? I have everything else from MSD for my ignition system, except an upgraded distributor.

Thanks!

Its a 4.3 for a S-10 IIRC. (Im pretty sure)

go to the auto parts store and ask for one, it looks just like the 1 for the 2.8. If it looks different then its not the right 1 .

Good Thread. I almost started a thread on which distributor to replace the original in my '85 GT, beins that it has 82k, 20+ years, and the pick up coil and ignition module, O ring and bushings go anyway. I'm not going MSD but as stock as possible and high quality, looked for an AC Delco Reman, but none to be found, ended up getting the E-TRON through the Fiero Store. Hope I made the right decision.

Wow, that's beautiful. So that is a direct replacement for a 2.8L V6 distributor? Does anyone know for certain?

FYI, this guy on Ebay is selling them for only $277 with free shipping.

Still would like to know if this is a drop in replacement for the 2.8. I'd love to install it in my car.

It is true that the MSD-8430 cap and rotor set will fit the standard 2.8 ignition distributor, however the distributor pictured will not fit in a 2.8 engine. MSD does not make a distributor for the 2.8 GM engine at this time.
If you need a replacement distributor, the new style, remanufactured, 700-3703 Cardone Ignition Distributor part number 30-1633 will drop right in as it is a direct replacement.
Sorry to burst the bubble, but just think about the aggravation I just saved you when they tell you that you cannot return electrical parts.

He is right MSD does not make a 2.8 Dist as there just is not enough call for them.

Cap and rotor should fit as he has said.

This is a link where to purchase a cardone distributor.

Why won't this distributor work:

It's for a 2.8L V6

That one may work, but it won't be a drop in. It's got a different wiring setup, so it won't plug into the Fiero wiring harness.

It probably would fit in a 2.8 V-6 but not for a Fiero application. Why? The Fiero ECM controls the advance, this distributor has either vacuum or machanical advance, and the "simple 3-wire hook up" precludes any type of ignition module.
Now on the other hand, if you were building a carburated 2.8 V-6, then this may have potential, perhaps a carb with vacuum advance secondaries coupled to the vacuum advanced ignition distributor.

There may be a high performance distributor out there, nobody here on the forum has found one yet, except for the new style cardone.
