I'm not going to lie, I have very, very little experience with spray painting things. My experience is mostly limited to painting things just so as they won't rust, not nessacarily to make them look nice.

So, why then did I tell you this? because as per mentioned by a few other forum memebers, I used dupli-color gloss black and I'm here to say that it's extremely forgiving as a spray paint. By which I mean, even if you spray a little too much here and there, just letting it dry will let it smooth back out to looking good status. It's a very beginer friendly paint. I did also do things a little differently than the ones I've seen. I plan on keeping the seats the light grey that came in my 87 GT, and as such, not everything will be black, I also purchased dupli-color silver to accent some things and make the seats not be the only thing that's silver. I will not lie, the silver is not as beginer friendly, it looks terrible when you spray it, but smooths out a lot when it dries, but it is a bit harder to work with than the black.

Anyways less talk and more pictures for now.

I'm also thinking about taking a spare set of those fins on the side of the center console and painting them silver as well, but I'm not sure if I want to do that or not.

It's not a tremendous amount of progress, but if you know me, I move very slowly. I'm also not sure if I like what I've painted silver so far, I think it looks good but I'm not 100%. I'm also not sure that all the pieces I used were the best possible examples, so there is a good possiblity that I'll just use this set for the experience of painting, and do another set for my project car, don't worry, if I deem this set not good enough it will go into the 87 coupe I'm buying.

So there you have it. Total cost so far is about $19.00 worth of paint, about 8 hours worth of cleaning and painting (I said I was slow, I wasn't lying) and paint all over my thumb I highly recommend doing this if you're not satisfied with the stock look.

As far as painting interior pieces, the most important part is how well you prep the pieces before you paint them. When I did mine, I used prep to remove the glossy finish (forget what it was called but got it at PepBoys), then sprayed the pieces with BullDog Adhesion Promoter. After it dried, THEN I painted the peices. They looked really nice and never had a problem with scuffing or peeling, even in areas that were handled.

This topic has been discussed many times and there's a lot of info in other threads ....

In terms of prep work, I have a dad that used to be a body man, so he's told me some. I may not have done the best job in the world though. What I did was clean them since some peices where outside for a little while, just cleaned the dirt and such off with a sponge, then, as per my fathers sugestion, lightly scratched them up with a scuff pad, the used some sort of plastic cleaner, then painted. an addhesion promotor may have been a good idea but it hadn't crossed my mind. But like I said, this set may just end up in my new coupe as a "practice run."

Well, the nice thing is that I've not used one of the orginal pieces that came with my 87 GT, these are all my parts cars best offerings so, I'll still have a whole complete set left even if I do screw up
