Hi there, I'm totally new to this forum but have been a Fiero fan for years (though I have never owned one). Recently I have been talking to a guy who is selling a 1987 Fiero GT fastback and I am wondering what you guys "in the know" might think a fair price would be. According to the seller the car is mint with 38,000 kms on it, and has been stored inside most of it's life. I am due to go see it in the next day or so and I am wondring if there is anything I should be wary of, and what you guys think good offer would be. The seller is asking $9950 Canadian, which is a little steep for me but I guess the contition of the car is key. Anyways any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If the 38k miles is correct then it should be in pretty good shape. Check under the trunk carpet for rust. Take a 7mm socket, ratchet and a flash light with you and look behind the wheel well covers. Get the car up on a lift if you can and check the floor pan along with the condition of the strut system front and rear. Take it for a long enough test drive to get the engine warmed up and see how it reacts. While driving it see how it shifts and how the clutch feels. If you can do all that you should have a very good idea of what it is worth to you. Then you can talk with him and see what he might be willing to do with the price.

From what I have seen of Fiero prices 5k would be a fair price. I saw a t-top 88 GT with less then 10k miles go for 8k last year. My 1200 mile formula went for $6400 last year and thats after the fellow spent 5 months trying to sell it for 10k

NEVER buy a car sight unseen, based only on the Seller's opinion of his car (done that once, never again). It's very good that you will be seeing and test driving it.

Follow the above suggestions and check out the problem areas. You can also have a mechanical inspection done for you. Since we have no idea where you are,
you'll have to find a Car Inspection service in your area that will come and look at the car and give you a report on the car's condition before you buy it.

This is an awesome guide to use. EDIT: (Using the guide and assuming that it has a lot of options, I came up with a price of $4800.00)

If I am doing the math correctly this car has approx 23,750 miles on it (for us U.S boys & girls). My guess is the car is worth in the $5,000 - $6,000 range. It will all depend on what options are on it and actual condition of the car. Low milage is nice, but is does not always insure that it was treated gently.

If possible take a Fiero owner with you to help you look over the car. They will know what to look for. Somone already mentioned pulling back the carpets in the trunk. They sometimes rust in the corner under the carpets. Look at the coolant brackets, these tend to rust as well and may need to be replaced. Having plastic bodies, Fiero look good on the outside. Be prepared to get a little dirty. crawl under the car and inspect the condition of the space frame. It may have some surface rust, it may be clean. This is OK. If it has major rust, be very careful.
