i don't know about best. maybe better wheels/tires?
i think worst were the a-pillar mirrors. i liked the potential looks wise, but the passenger side is useless, you almost have to mount it to find that out, then you have to repair the a-pillars afterward. it'd be first on my "learn from my experience. don't try this" list.

I think the most useful mod I performed was my total suspension/brake rebuild. Lots of goodies went into that. And I'm REALLY glad I did it.
All the mods I've done to my car are meant to be useful in some way. So the label "most useless" is going to be tough. But relatively speaking, I'd say replacing the seat belts with 4-point harnesses was the "least useful" mod. I did it simply because I like strapping myself into my car.

The most useful mod I've done is to replace the dash bulbs with a 5W xenon. They are brighter, produce less heat, last up to 5 times longer and you can actually see your dash for the first time.
The worst I ever did was to put an aftermarket intake on. Useless, utterly useless.
By the way if anyone is interested in the new dash bulbs I still have some for sale. PM me if you would like a set.

t/b, intake, port exhaust manifolds, exhaust, underdrive pulley... ... except i was having second thoughts about that underdrive pulley, the worst mod i ever did was a hypertech chip. It re-set the radio stations everytime i opened the passenger door, did nothing for performance, and i had to buy 91oct.

The most useful....Brake upgrade (it's saved me from getting into a accident). The most useless...the lumbar air bags (88) and the front 4x10 speakers (87). I should have installed 6x9's.

Best Mod: I can't pick so here's my top 4 of them. a) I made metal retainers to go around the mounting tabs for my front coolant tank, because the plastic ones were cracking. b) I made a new splash tray (attaches the front airdam to the lower rad support) and new floor drain plugs out of galvanized steel sheet. No rust! c) Mach 1 Mustang Shaker intake on rear deck lid for cooling d) new doors with power windows, custome made wiring harness and stock switches.
Most useless: Rims from an 87 Beretta.

#1 Porting the exhaust manifolds. You can really feel this, and it makes a (tiny) increase in mileage too. I don't think that there is much disagreement on this one.

I've done a number of small mods--put in rear deck poppers on everything I own, the temp gauge fix (so it doesn't peg anymore,) gen 2 headlite setups on gen 1 cars. Put an led in the rear window brake lite (so I can see it's working.) Got rid of the horn paddle steering wheels (horrible design) and replaced with late 80's 4 spoke Firebird wheels. All inexpensive and very useful.
My favorite is the Mr Mikes seat setup I put in about 4 years ago.
I have 17" front and 18" rear wheels on my 88 faux GT (4 cyl, automatic.) Tires and wheels basically cost me nothing, look great, but as a mod are totally useless--don't help handling and make the steering effort increase and makes the front end feel ponderous, imo.

Most usefull so far?--its a toss-up between the vented hood and the interior lighting. With the stock overheads, a map-light mirror out of a 91 Pontiac and 8- 6" blue neons, I can actually read a map at night without pulling out a flashlight.
Most useless ? Put on bumerpad-type nose and tail cones. The aero ones were perfectly good and didnt need replacing, it was strictly an aestetics/custom look thing.
