While at the local J-yard yesterday i noticed a C-4 sitting in the prep area of the yard. It still had all it's suspention parts and motor. The car didn't have any crash damage although the front body panels were gone. I was checking a few threads and there seems to be some debate on the vette brake swap being "worth it". So the question is should i grab the brake components off of this car? Are there any other componts i should be looking at like master cylinder, caliper brackets, Rear calipers? I've searched some threads and haven't heard mention of using the vette's rear calipers? Anyone have any insight on why not? The guy quoted me 25 bucks per caliper . . . . sounds resonable to me, but i forgot to ask about the master cylinder. Well What should i rape off of this thing?

If you decide you want the C4 brake upgrade to install on an 88, the only thing that you need that was produced and actually installed on a C4 Vette was the rotors unless you want to go with the adaptation that someone here on Pennocks did where they figured out a way to utilize the the calipers also. I can't discuss that particular upgrade. I have purchased 4 four sets of the C4 upgrade for my 88 Formulas and believe that it's the best bang for the buck you can put on an 88. There are those that don't agree with me but, this is America and everyone has a right to their own opinion. You will need to find a set of the machined brackets (WCF sells them, there may be others, I don't know.) to put the C4 rotors on and use the stock 88 calipers. You also need to plan on purchasing different wheels, the stockers won't fit over the converted rotors. Happy Fieroing. Editted to add, you will only use the front rotors off of the C4 on all four corners of the 88 WCF upgrade, sorry, forgot to say that earlier. ------------------ Ron Freedom isn't Free, it's paid for with the blood and dreams of those that have gone before us. What year is it? What wheels are on it? Is it an LT-1 or LT-4 (or an LT-5 )? There's probably plenty of fun things to strip off of it. I'd probably start with the wheels and work my way in from there, depending on the options.

The front ones? Aren't the rears the larger ones? And the C5 have the same size all around, I believe. Although , you probably will be fine with the offset rotors. I would prefer C5 hardware anyway, but I think it's harder to come by.

The C4 Fiero upgrade uses 12' C4 front rotors on all four corners of the Fiero. It maybe different with the other Vette upgrade, I haven't done that one. Using the brackets and stock rotors with C4 12" rotors all the way around provides my cars with some outstanding braking power. You are increasing the rolling mass/weight when you do this conversion but, IMO, it's the best upgarde you can apply to an 88 Fiero for the money. Just my .02 worth.

My project car is an 85 so there is no doubt i'll need some type of adapter. I was interested in doing the vette brake swap but would really like to get some C-5 parts but this C-4 is just sitting there prime for the plucking. I'm guessing it is a mid 80's car i didn't peak under the tarp that was covering the motor but i doubt it is a lt-5. I'll get the parts even if i descide to go with the newer hardware. I know a few 88's that could use some better brakes. The rims are an aftermarket 5 star type with a very deep dish to them. Anybody have any info on the vette's front spindle assembly? I'm wondering if it would be possible to swap the whole deal. I might try to pick up the whole thing (spindles and brakes) .

I'm probably full of crap on this but, the conversion that I'm talking about is only for 88s. There maybe something else out there that I don't know about, I only own 88s, sorry I can't help you out on anything else. The 88 is unique in this area. I believe the LeBarron upgrade is considered pretty good but, you're going to have to ask someone that has done it. Sorry about that. You might want to ask in Tech.

The brakes on it were prob the reason the nose was missing....lol
Ive had 2 C4s, an 86 and an 88, and they both sucked big time. My Fiero based Ferrari with stock 86 Fiero brakes stopped far better. I still have the 88 which is a really nice driver and well maintained with low miles. Last years brake job on it was like $3,000 and it still stops like the Flintstone mobile. (JMHO).
