I'd been looking for a vacuum pump to use on my car for the past couple of days. I was ready to go out and buy one of the venturi type devices that Harbor Freight sells, but something told me to ask Autozone if they loaned one out... and they do!

So for those that are looking for one to draw a vacuum on your systems, try Autozone. The one here does the loan service for them.

No, I had to buy my own set of gauges, but the set only cost me 58 bucks. The pump they gave me would only pull 25 inches of vacuum. It is low on oil, and that might be the problem. From all the reading and research done so far, I need to pull at least 30 inches to get all the moisture out. Before drawing the vacuum, I flushed the system out with denatured alcohol, and blew it out with compressed air. So I want at least a good 4 hours of deep vacuum to ensure all the moisture is gone before I service. I did a leak down with the 25 inches vac on the system, and it is holding tight. So I will see if they have oil for it and try to pull a deeper vacuum today.

At LEAST! But I dare you to get to 30.5 inches Hg.

(and if you do your gauge is off)

According to Folk lure: at 30.6 in hg the Fiero will implode and be sucked up inside the vacuum pump. It is extremely expensive to have it reversed and if not reversed properly perfectly good Fieros have been known to be turned into SUV's by mistake.

Nope... but almost! I did not pick the pump up until after I got off work on Monday. I let it run overnight, then again for a few hours the next afternoon, and charged the system up Tuesday night when I got home from work.

The system is pretty tight, and it's nice and cold now.

BTW, the pump had no problem pulling a full vacuum, the problem was my gauge set was not zeroed.
