I've noticed theres some aftermarket door sill pieces made of polished aluminum, west coast fiero sells them...
Would there be much intrest here on PFF as far as brushed stainless steel dorr sill plates (they attach to the top of the rocker panels, you open the door(s) and see them.)
Reason Im asking is This stuff's expensive material and I'd like to know how many, if any members at all would be interested in these?
I'm looking into making myself a set, If it goes well, depending on intrest and posts on this thread alone, I'll make a bunch of sets to sell...
What would be a reasonable price ? $125.00 + shipping? (PRICE IS OFFICALLY $100+shipping)
Let me know if your interested, post on this thread I prefer no emails and pms as those mail boxes will fill up fast im sure.
I would def be interested, and your price seems reasonable. Afraid im a bit low on the stuff right now though.
By the time i get it perfected, I'm sure you'll have it together (but i know where your coming from, i need more income for my one project. thats y im going to attempt to make these brushed stainless steel sills. there might be several diffrent shapes sizes... we'll see what comes of it.
If you interested, post on this thread...
WE'VE GOT ONE !

bump for the night, almost 100 views on this thread and one member has shown intrest so far. is everyone interested in seeing pics. of a set installed or what? Im guessing thats mainly why no one else is commiting yet 'waiting on pics?' is is it just to early in the thread to assume this? (if your waiting on pictures, stay tuned, If i get the metal to make mine tomorrow, It won't be long before I have pictures...
I'll be picking up the stainless to do oe set tomorrow hopefully, If it turns out well. I will post pictures of it and continue taking the orders. while i wait for my new sheats to arrive at the shop...
something else that mihght be possible would be for me to reproduce the plastic grey trim pieces for over the radio, the speedometer, the the center console shifter piece... make a whole set of these I'm gonna say a set of those, due to the time that'll be taken to make one set, probally betweeen 150 and 200 bux for a set like this... post your thoughts on this as well if your interested

Depends...can I get them to say whatever I want? How are you cutting these, waterjet? If you are using a waterjet, can I send you an Autocad ".dwg" file and have you import that into the waterjet computer?
I think they would sell , but you know the rules , gota see pics.....
plan on getting pics as soon as i finish a set for my car. (you can count that as a promise) If it goes pretty well, and im confident in selling them, I'll make them to sell...
depending how cutting it goes, I'll try to get alittle thicker brushed stainless / brushed aluminum for the gauge trim pieces... But I don't mind showing pics, and i got a sweet digital camera so there won't be problems there... hang tight

I'll be using a dremel to shape the edges etc.
but doing this thing 'engraving text etc' would be all done by hand, I'm sure i could do it, but it'd cost alittle more, and it'd obviously take longer...
What i could do would be get a piece of 'thicker stainless, use the drawing you send me from CAD and transfer that onto the thicker piece of stainless and get a buncha tips for the dremel (as this stainless is very tough on drill bits, dremel tips, tin snips (obviously, because they're made to cut tin not stainless steel)
send me the cad drawing, might have you resize it or something, but when i get the correct size of the image you looking for, and i can gt a few sets of these sills made, I'll try working on a jig for the design your interested in. hows that sound?
well, i might need funds from these to support another fiero project im getting ready to buy... v8 project... (might need a new engine before i get the swap compleately finished since i dunno jack about engines, swaps etc.)
stay tune... faster i get thes made and sold, the closer i am to the v8

Oh man...I didn't realize you were doing these by hand, lol. I think what I'd want to do would be way too much work for a person to do by hand, plus it's completely custom to my car, and I will 100% guarantee you that not one single other person would order the same set of sills as myself...hardly worth your time. It's no big deal, I have a few friends with the right connections to get me the use of a waterjet for a few hours.
u werent caught in katrina were u ? (doesnt lok like the fiero was, but your from those parts im assuming according to your 'location'. just wonderin)
I live right outside Baton Rouge. Had some very bad rain and winds and no electricity for awhile but Our place came out OK !!!! Just a lot of limbs and debris to pick up. Had a lot of friiends though that did not do so good.
I could be interested in this type of thing. I am sure my car would love it. I also need that whole piece that goes around the automatic shifter console thing, the ashtrys, doors etc...if you happen to have any of that stuff.
------------------ ------------------ "what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul"

I'll check with my duckwork guy on sit (he's getting me a few bigger pieces to try this thing and see how it comes out... I'm sure they've got a buncha scraps laying around their shop they could do without (like big enough for ashtray doors etc... We'll see, If not I know a few other places to check...
this will be alot of work to do by hand with a dremel etc... It wouldn't pay for the time Id have in it for 'a tad bit more' sorry, I just don't really have the ability to do something like this by hand without a jig of some sort, which would also take alot of time to make tho... And the time Id have in the jig would be what would cost me the big bux, cause its gotta be stronger than what i'd be engraving the image / logo onto... So as far as doing something just one off for someone will get pricy (un-reasonable for what it would be) but maybe further down the road once i get good and efficent with cutting out the basic shape of the door sill pieces, I might get into engraving the fiero pegasus logo on them, but I doubt I'll ever get too complicated with all of that... Unless I make enough profit to buy the machine to do it (which is probally like 10 grand so i'd say screw that...)
Sorry for the disappoint, but if its a one off, id have you pay for what it costs to make the jig, as well as the labor Id have in the design... It'd be unreasonable in my honest opinion. and I don't wanna be known as 'the guy that charges too much for his product'
Im about quality, not as much quanity (but it's nice to have both) although doing it by hand would insure an exellent presice job. but it'd be too time costly to be reasonable
I'll most likely be doing all of these myself, so for now I'll probally just stick to making the basic pieces... once i get the door sills down pat, I'll move onto bigger and better things (trim pieces, ashtray door covers, lisence plate surrounds, just show type stuff for us that like to show off our time and hard effort )
This is NOT A NO, just saying it wouldnt pay for either of us to do this (you would be paying out the nose for something like this done by hand) Thats my honest awnser. I guess it all depends on how bad someone wants one with logos on...

I'd be interested in a set. just need to see some pictures
Nolan
I should be getting my free trial stainless steel pieces if my buddys got it. I'f not I'll be ordering a 4x8 sheet of this stainless and I'll unfortunately have to wait alittle bit longer than I was hoping to on the first piece... But if this thing works out as planned, we'll see how fast they sell and how often i need to buy the sheets. Then I'll have a better idea how much o this stuff I've gotta keep in stock etc.
hang tight man (in anxious for a set as well ) and on the edge of my seat.
But if i were in you place, id be saying the same works "NEED MORE PIX"

Ok, so would you just be interested in a plain set and you do the water jet? LMK if you'd like a set
DXR_DAD used to make these and a bunch of other neat stuff. If I recall correctly, he used to sell a decent amount of them. Well I can't be certain of sales, but the certainly generated a lot of attention

Yea, within 4 day (i believe its members lookig for pix of these that im going to try to make... But im known to be wrong)
Hopefully things will turn out as planned, i like body work, but i hate messing with resins etc. waiting for it to cure etc... Although once i finish a few molds i'll make a few of those to sell... But thats a diffrent topic, and its much more time consuming than these will be hopefully...
I thought of a simpler way to do this^^^^^^^ Instead of using a dremel, why not use a paper template, and acid-etch the metal, using a kit like a glass etch kit (acid in a plastic bottle with a sponge tip) like what the cops use when they etch VINs on glass for anti-car theft campaigns. You could save the pattern and do others, and the etched metal would take paint, or a metal tint such as Gentian violet, easier if a particular color was desired.
Btw, THAT is a really nice Pegasus design...it's better than the original.

Profits will be going to another project I've been working on for about a year or so. It all started at Fine arts Festival last year, I designed a christian T-shirt (fine arts is a competition between teens in 9th-12th grade ranging from human videos, to skits, to graphic designs and instrumental solos) I placed in the top 10 shirts in the nation. And Im working to get as many as possible made (400-500 shirts) to send with my former youth pastor who is going to jamacia to be a missionary / teacher in the school there along with his wife and 3 children to hand out to the poverty stricken area. http://www.jaminjamaica.com/
The T-Shirt does have a copy right on: The shirt was designed on Photoshop CS. And its time for me to do something productive with the design.
I was not going to share this fact with the forum, on account of getting bashed. But if anyone is considering taking their time to bash this goal of mine needs to reconsider it.
Anyone who has any opinions on the matter, feel free to share, but it will not effect the outcome of what the profit goes towards.
Again, a large 'thank you' goes out to those of you who purchase a set of these sills to benefit the folks in jamacia. Im sure they would say the same if possible
Thank You
(FYI the v8 mentioned in this post, the deal has fallen through due to the car coming with the v8 being rear ended by a drunk driver / park job. If need be, I will get the seller of this to verify that these statements are true.) I would not lie about donating such funds to a non-profit organization. I'm not that heartless, sorry if that might disappoint some of you. But its just not me... This thing turns into a 'flame war' I'll just reconsider making the pieces.

kool. Any Idea how i could etch them? besides a dremel...? or waterjet etc. Like acid or something?
~Tim
That I am not sure about. The Brushed Alum I have is only .025 thick so it would be tough to do that to that type of material. I have vinyl applied to mine.

You could just mask it with stenicls and tape and either scuff it with sand paper, or wipe it down with muratic acid, not sure how well either would work, but both would have an effect on the surface, though the latter will have quite a nasty effect on you as well.

I was thinking to try muratic acid... but then id have trouble masking it or keeping the stencil tight enough to stay within the confounds of the image i was tring to apply onto the stainless... even scuffing it would be tough to tape off (would have to use a stencil of some sort there...
