Well, obviously you guys can see that I'm new, so I'm gonna ask a few newbie questions once in a while.
I'm picking up an 85' Auto Fiero Notchie for $100. The guy who last owned it has had it sitting around for some time I guess, not exactly sure how long, but maybe a couple of years. I'm not sure if it's broken or something, but I guess I'll find out.

What I really wanted to ask, was this: Because the Fiero is a mid-engine car, how does the transmission work? Does it just hook directly or something? Also, if I needed to do something, like maybe replace the transmission, what would I look at? Some info sites would be really cool. I tried checking out Ogre's Cave, but it's giving me some crappy site not found error :P. Like I said, all and any help is appreciated greatly.

Take a front-wheel drive setup (sideways engine and transmission) and drop it in the back. That's how it is in the Fiero... literally. The engine, transmission, and even some of the rear suspension came from the front of the Chevy Citation.

At least, that's how it is for the 1984-87 Fieros. For the 1988 model year, Pontiac designed a completely new rear suspension for the Fiero. The '88 Fiero still used the FWD drivetrain, though.
