Wow where to begin. I bought a radio /cd player from radio replacements on e-bay. I like the fact that it looks stock and is easy to use. Not to many buttons to work while driving. So the radio seemed to develope a short so I sent it back to the radio guy to see if it had a short. He said the short must be in the car so I looked around and sure enough I found it. problem solved right? NO. problems are only beggining. on the way back FedEx must of shut the box / radio in a door or smashed it ect. The face had a tweeked corner, the fins on the back are bent and the volume doesn't seem to work. So I contact the radio guy and he says he will start a claim for me and put it I'n my name so I can handle it. So I put the radio outside so FedEx can inspect the damage and they send it all the way back to the radio guy. So to make a long story short the radio guy says the volume control issue on those radio's happens with use and the other damage is cosmetic and he will see if FedEx will kick $50.00 to pay for the volume repair and the shipping. My Fiero is my Sunday driver I haven't put more than 4000 miles in the 3 years I've owned it. How could the radio wear out from to much use? Dam I feel I'm getting the run around. I've got a radio with a damaged face and a volume problem and a radio guy that seems to be woking for FedEx. Anybody have any suggestions on radios/CD players for Fiero's?

I avoided the whole mess nicely. Took apart my stock AM/FM/cassette and added a salvaged headphone jack to the front panel. Then I wired it into the wiring between the tuner/tape board and the amplifier board. End result is a plug on the front of the radio I can use with an iPod/discman. Total cost? $0. The other advantage is that no one in their right mind will break into a Fiero and steal a radio so ancient looking.

That sucks, I'd let the guy know the above and hopefully he will be reasonable. I've heard of volume nobs wearing out and developing a harsh static like noise when you adjust it but I haven't heard of any of them just stop working like that from age but most of mine have volume bottons.
BTW if you have any pics of the radio before it was shipped perhaps you can use those to "prove" that the "cosmetic damage" wasn't there until after its been shipped. Good luck.
the volume button is a valid responce by the radio guy. it is a very common problem on them. my CD player is a 98 model and was sitting in the garage of the previous owners for 2 years before i installed it. unless yours is out of a 2005 model, then i wouldnt be suspicious.
what kind of volume problems r u having anyway? you turn the volume knob up slowly and it either doesnt turn up or turns down? thats what mine does, and am pretty sure this is the common problem these radios have.
as far as the damage from FedEx....anything is possible. i unload at FedEx off the big semi trailors...its unfortunate what goes on there. but at the rate we are expected to move...we have to.

Hey I do have the old tape player so thats an option.
These radios are perfect for such a modification. It's unbeleavably easy, there's a perfect place for the jack to go, and then it only requires a few minutes of soldering 5 wires to finish it off. The sound is clearer than you get with one of those tape adapters. As you can see, the jack even looks like it's supposed to be there.

That is a common problem with lots of different radios. I have a late model Pontiac radio in my T-top that has this problem. The radio in Marie's Sebring also has this problem.

If you meant replacement radios, the guy that runs that is on this forum, and goes by the screen name Kru. Here's his thread about the radios he sells; and his website.
I haven't delt with him personally, but I know that there are many others on this forum who have; and they had nothing but good things to say about him. Through his reputation on here, he seems like a stand up guy; and I would have no reservations of dealing with him myself. If you did deal with Kru, then I'm sure that he's doing everything in his power to make things right for you. (You could probably send him a PM through this forum).
Welcome to the forum, and I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks every one for your 2 cents worth. I got to thinking about it last night and I guess I brought this on mysilf really. I've been dealing with Kevin and he has been very helpful. I am actually tired of the running around and waiting on FedEx. I'm going to right off the old Radio and just purchase another one if possible. About the volume well if you touch the knob the radio gets really loud and wont turn down. I'm try to add up the cost of my agravation as apposed to the cost of a new radio. I already have hi blood pressure and I don't think this is helping. I'm still not to happy with FedEx but I guess we all have scheduals to keep.
Replacement Radios offers a 90 day warranty. So if there were problems within that time period with the radio, then the buyer should get a free replacement. You should not have to live with a faulty volume knob. I had problems with the volume and the clock in a CD player from Replacement during the warranty period and I returned mine and Kevin sent me another acceptable unit.
Whoever paid for the shipping (buyer most likely) had the option to insure the package for more than the default. I believe FedEx offers insurance up to $100 with shipping and more coverage could have been purchased. I believe another $2 paid to FedEx covers your shipment up to $500.
So -- at the least -- you should get $100 from FedEx eventually. And if your unit was under warranty -- then in the interest of building and maintaining good will in the PFF comunity -- Replacement radios should send you another unit for $100. Replacement will not be making money in this particular case, but Replacement will be building their reputation with lot's of other potential buyers. Losing $80 to replace your unit worth $180 will build the foundation for future sales worth $100s or $1000s in sales to other Fiero owners.
I hope Replacement does the right thing here. Nonetheless, a claim must be filled with FedEx and then processed.

When I got my Fiero, it came without a radio. I ordered a radio from replacement radios and recieved it in a reasonble time. When I installed it, the radio did not wanted to turn on. I e-mailed the person with my problem and he offered various solutions. I found out that it was not the radio but a wire in the vehicles harness that was not working therefore not powering the radio. I have to admit that I was extremely grateful for his patiences and his willingness to help out. That says a lot about a person and his business. I would defenitely do business with him again.

The Radio was sent back because I thought it had a short and Kevin checked it for free witch I thought was super nice I only had to Paypal for shipping. On it's way back FedEx damaged it. Now lets say the volume problem wasn't part of the damage , I tink it was but after hearing from a few of you folks with like radios who knows, but the damage to the face and back fins are all FedEx. Now lets say I buy a glass vase. When it arrives the shipper has managed to chip it. I wouldn't expect the sender say it's only a small chip put it in you cabinet and turn the vase so the chip dosen't show would I? Hmmmmmmm

I have done business with Kevin in the past. I am not surprised that he was able to help.
