Right here

Bought the '88 GT back in January 2004, so it'll be my 2 year anniversary next month . I was always wondering what my car was like before I got it, so I did a search for "Ron Dittmer" in the archives and that's what I came up with. Anyone know him? Is he still into Fieros? Also, its weird having people talk about my car when it wasn't mine, you know?

Yes! I know Ron. He's a friend of my dad's and got both of us into Fieros right when I was almost 16 (three years ago). I knew he sold his Fiero (doesn't have another, but has a C5 Corvette now) but I didn't think think he sold it to a forum member. His was probably the first fastback I ever saw, and I was amazed, as I'm sure you were, at how immaculate he kept that car. Even now, when my dad and I are working on something, he'll usually comment, "Now if Ron were doing this, he'd probably take all this apart, clean it, scrape the rust off, and paint it before he'd put it back together."

Actually, when I drove up to Chicago to buy Ron's 88GT I had only seen 2 Fieros in my whole life, my Dad's '84 SE when I was about 3 years old back in 1988, and a notchie like 3 months before. I was absolutely awed by Ron's car, it was the first fastback I ever saw. That's probably why I bought it even though it was very high priced ($9800), I also wasn't on Pennocks and didn't really know the value of Fieros.

Looking through his old pictures of it, I think I should clean the engine bay. I do a pretty good job of keeping the exterior clean but the engine, I just don't mess with because I'm afraid of messing up the electrical or cracking a manifold by washing it. Still looks good though. I've put about 7,000 miles on it in 2 years, that's like 3500 a year, well over the average before of 2200 a year. Now that I've got my '86 SE I'll probably only drive the '88 once every couple of weeks just to keep it running good.

Is Ron gonna get back into Fieros? He hasn't posted on here in like 2 years?

Edit: here's a recent photo of it, with my '86 SE:

I really can't say if he'll get back into Fieros, but if I know Ron, I'll bet he will buy another some time in his life. He still has a lot of enthusiasm for our mid-engined Pontiac as of when I talked to him last January, but I suppose when his wife said he could have a Corvette, he decided it was best not to push his luck by keeping two two-seaters. And besides, his son still has one IIRC, so he's still connected.
