I have the opportunity to get a 1990 300ZX for $2000, rebuilt motor, rebuilt transmission. Just needs a little tlc. What do you guys think? Anyone ever had one, I'm just worried about having to run premium gas all of the time and maintainence costs, but I really want the car.

Is it a fairlady? 1990 was the first year with the round body style right? A buddy of mine back in highschool had one, he had problems with the driveshaft, it would shake a little in the rear at highway speeds, I cant remember him having any other major problems. Very Very fun car!

I have a '90 Twin Turbo. Great car that has been pretty much bulletproof since I've owned it. Very fast and has a fan following as intense as the fiero if not more so. Check out www.twinturbo.net

Maybe more intense on how big of wing they can put on the trunk.

Those cars are nice.
BUT SERIOUSLY the worst engine to work on.
Have fun pulling a dozen other things off to get to what your trying to work on.
Those cars are a nightmare to work on.

If you dont get it. I got a friend who is a z32 addict who would pick it up

Ive worked on the earlier 300zxs guy who used to work for me bought a pair of them off me and i helped him pull the engine that car was a pain in the ass to work on but then again i could say the same thing about working on a fiero but i enjoy working on my fiero more than a 300zx. If i were you find a beat up 280 or 260 or 240 and put a 350 sbc in it. i know in the 280 it is like a direct fit.

I've had a 280ZX, and an '84 300ZX. I've always wanted a Z32 though. That thing is so fast

Z32's are killer, but make sure you know what you're getting into before you dive in, as they can get very expensive very quickly, but if the motor and tranny are in good shape, and it seems solid to you, go for it. Z32's are fricken awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, few hardcore z32 fans rice out their rides as compared to most other of the popular imports, but there are some in every crowd. I have a Wings West body kit on mine and it is very tasteful and flows well with the stock Twin Turbo lip spoiler.

Good car but!

Hard to work on, parts are getting even harder to fine and expensive when found.

If it is a good car needing little work fine but if it is a fixer upper it is a money pit like a 928 Porsche.

Absolutely great cars if they are taken care of. Why was the engine rebuilt? Abuse or maintenance? Buddy of mine has had several. Is it a Turbo? If so make sure they replaced the Turbo components when they rebuilt the engine. Find out what kind of shape the AWS system is in... If they go bad they are expensive to fix.

They are similar to Fieros in the fact that not all mechanics will even work on them, and the parts are becoming harder to find. Also, the parts are VERRRY expensive. Stillen makes superb parts for them though that are fairly reasonable.

If it is N/A I would think twice. It is a heavy car and the N/A is a slug.

If Twin Turbo, what is the condition of the turbos and what is the maint history?
If you are going to work on the car yourself, get a factory service manual and spend a lot of time on twinturbo.net They are a Pain in the A** to work on but it is doable. If you have to pay someone to work on the car for you it will get expensive really fast. Upgrading the power will also get expensive really fast.

There is a guy on www.ls1tech.com that put an LS1 in a Z32 (300ZX). Now that would be a fun car.

No way it's a Twin turbo for only $2k. Especially if it's had a complete rebuild cuz that alone would cost twice that. Even a rough TT usually runs around $6k unless it's totalled or something.
