I know of at least 3 people on this forum who have 4.3 Chevy V6s.
I don't think any of them started life as a Mercruiser, tough.

Edit - I missed the "aluminum block" part. That's gotta be interesting. Do you have a link?

The 485 is a Merc only engine and is a big 4 cylinder of 3.7L, IIRC. They are a unique beast having things like the alternator being part of (not driven by) the front dampner. I don't recall if they had DIS or not, but they may have. If someone wants to give this a try and does it successfully, they have my respect. They are NOT a small engine. Think 1/2 of a 454 Chevy.

Edited to add that I just remembered they had a redline of under 5,000 rpm as well, something around 4,600 or so.

A marine engine ususally isn't well suited to a car. It's power band is typically very low, with a very low redline. They're designed to run wide open for extended periods of time, but that my still only get you 2500 - 3000 rpm. I'm unfamiliar with this particular engine, so those concerns may not be valid, but it would be something to check into.

See what it's power band is first.

I have had that engine in my boat up to 4800 - 5000 RPMs and that is tops on it. There is a lot of things you would have to remove and change over if you are going from a marine engine to a car engine and if you were going car to boat you would add quite a few things.
