I'm not for sure what the laws are regarding children in automobiles and child restraint seats or booster seats.

Usually I know people always have their babies in the back seat, so I'm not for sure if you can put them in the front seat or not.

Has anybody ever strapped a baby seat in a Fiero?

Many thanks!

I have no clue but if in doubt just strap the baby seat in the pass side and stick a large doll baby in it , then circle the police station a few times or flag one down for directions or something.. ,
On the other hand the baby "IS" strapped in the most rear-ward seat available for that model car.

This reminds me of the PA seat belt law,,, "Click it or Ticket". My 60 Pontiac did not come with seat belts and I don't think they were even on the option list. The car is titled as an antique so it cant be modified with something that was not offered hence I can drive without a belt and not get a ticket. That does'nt thrill me but you hardly ever hear the exception to the law these days.

I put my daughter in a regular carseat. She's 4 and a little small for her age. She loves riding in the fiero .Hey if you gotta do it you gotta do it. I would install the babyseat backwards of course, and just drive with some sence and it should be a problem. Just make sure to watch out for the other A -Holes out there.

They love fieros

There certainly isn't a problem fitting a car seat or booser seat in... My daughter rode many a mile in my Fiero from the time she was born. I think that if there is any type of law for this there would have to be some exclusion for a 2 seater car. Best bet would be to check with your local State Patrol office and find out.

Here in Canada it's legal. As long as there is no airbag, the seat can be legally put in the front. Just gotta make sure it's anchored to the car. I've had my kid's car seats in my Fiero.

I ran my son around in a booster seat several times, faced him forward. I believe the main issue with the front seat placement of children is because of the airbags in newer vehicles. There is also the matter of the statistical safety data for rear seat placement that can not apply to trucks or sports cars. It could be noted that most newer non-extended cab trucks allow you to turn the passenger side airbag off for small passengers. As far as I know, there are no laws restricting the placement of children in a front seat.

One thing bothers me about it though, my 85's inertial real belts lack the ability to lock for car child seat installation. You have to trust the reel to work perfectly if needed.

I did it a few times hauling my God daughter around when she was about 1 1/2 yrs old. (Yes, I'm Don-The Godfather.) Scary huh?

Anyhow, I also was leery of the seatbelt not inertia locking, so I used a 1" wide ratchet strap from walmart. I went thru the mount slots in the baby seat, and down around the back of the seat bottom. It was a pain to feed it between the seat and lower part of the center console, but it gave me a little peace of mind. I did also use the oem seatbelt, but not sure how much good it would do in an accident. The car seat had it's own straps to hold the child in--I just used the ratchet strap to hold the baby seat securely to the seat bottom, but I was still nervous all the time she was riding with me.

as long as theres no airbag it dont matter if theres an air bag then the laws ( at least in ohio ) i belive state that children under 12 have to be in back or a airbag disable switch must be installed

I don't believe its illegal in the states. But trusting the seatbelt to work perfectly isn't something I would be willing to do. You could check the junkyards for minivans that have anchors that bolt directly to the framerails and come up through where the seatcushion and the backing meet. Most carseats are designed to be able to anchor to these things, and I would feel a little bit better about my child (if I had one) riding in that car if it had them.

And as far as making babies in fieros... it can be done, one of you has to be a gymnist though .... seriously trust me on that one or you may hurt yourself.

I ride with my daughter who is in a rear facing car seat in the fiero all the time. You have to use the seatbelt locking clip to fasten the carseat in though check you car seat manual if you don't kow what that is. oh and here she is in the fiero

here is the locking clip you need to make the seatbelt work right
