hey, i'm trying to figure out what i want to run for rear tires, and i'm wondering what some different widths look like on a fiero.
i know i'll be doing AT LEAST 235/45R17, but am looking to as large as a 255/45R17. i'm just wondering if the width difference is noticeable enough to make the extra height worth while. i can't go to a 40series cause it won't fit on the rims i have, needing a 8Inch wide rim minimum to mount on.

so for everyone with some beefy rear rubber, please post a pic and of what size it is.
pluses will be given to all who post a nice picture as a thank you for helping me out. also as a side note, anybody who has rear tires that stick out about an inch past the stock fender lip and don't rub on stock suspesion would be PERFECT, as that would match my rear flares

These are 235/45/17 Potenza RE950 on 17"x7" rims with a 42mm offset and ~4.75mm spacers.

Here's what I have. I don't know if you can see it. But, I'm rolling on 255/40/18 with 18x9 rims (+38 offset). I will try to take a better picture this weekend.

One of his many cars hehehehe,....(sorry just jealous).

Yeah the car looks 100 x much better with the widebody hugging those big rims. Wait till he is finished, you will be amazed how natural those rims will look on there. Yes that is madcurl in the picture.

Good news, bad news on the rear decklid. I can tell you about it. The vents are custom made, so no you can't buy them, but hey you can make them !!

awesome guys, gave you all pluses!
although you've kinda confirmed what i was worried about. first of all, i can't tell the difference between a 215(what i have now) and a 245/45R17 which is about as wide as i can fit on a 7inch rim.
and secondly, none of those wheels/tires look like they would fill up a 2inch flare to the rear. except of course curly's who's was designed exactly for that. so i guess i might be in the market for some wider wheels next year.

keep the pics coming if anyone has anymore though, i love to see some meaty rubber on the back

Scott, space it out a bit more , and go for the gold... 255/45's I know your spacing is out like 1/8 inch or whatever you have it currently, but the rims you have are rwd and don't really pushout. If you space it out about .5-1 inch then your rims will be flush, or your tires will be. Its all about looks on a widebody !

I will try to find a good pic, but I have 245/50/16's on mine.

Only problem with them is that they are so sticky with my habit of loving to shift hard and dump the clutch, I am tearing things apart and exploding parts.

I don't know how you guys do it with the massive tires and higher power levels.

I am guessing you either have auto's or don't beat on the cars?

this is very much what i am thinking, although even a 255 would be pushing it on a 7" rim. so what i'm thinking is instead of spending a grand+ on new wheels, spend a couple hundred getting the rear wheels widened, and have some better spacers made, maybe even an adapter so that i can push them out more like 2" and not lose half the bolts. that way i could probably run something more like a 265 or 275/40R17 and go for gold.
i think ideally i'd get my current rims widened, but have the offset changed. i just don't think it's possible since there isn't reall any lip that could be deepened, it would have to be widened down the middle and i'd NEED a spacer to fit it back on.

When you get a quote on the widening, give me a PM on it. I am curious, as I want 17x10's if I stay with the 17's... They fit really well in the wheel wells and allow for larger performance tires.. Might be a good idea. Would you go to Winnipeg wheel? I wonder if they could do that in the city.. What I was thinking would be cutting out the 2nd piece of the rim, as its a 2 piece, and getting it pushed back in the tub, and widened 3" more.. It might not be a good idea, but if I can get the hub pushed back far enough, I won't need spacers... as the rim can just mount up just as a drag RWD rim... Humm.. You make me think good blond buddie !

335s coming soon.

ahh, now this is what i'm talking about. VERY close to what i have in mind as well.
i this pretty much settles it, i will either need my wheels widened or buy wider ones. i just hope richard can come through with the machining of some spacers to make them fit.

oh and chase, winnipeg wheel would be the first place i'd call
http://www.winnipegwheelworks.com/services.html
although i probably won't be getting a quote anytime soon, at least not until i know what i'm looking at getting, 8", 8.5", or 9" would most likely be my choice. i might look at getting all four chromed as well, who knows
i have a feeling it would be around 200-250 per wheel for widening, i'm only considering it cause i really like the wheels i have now. but if i find something even better that i could maybe do a 17x7 front and an 18x9 rear and only have a 400 difference between what i sell mine for and buy those for, i don't think i'd hesitate

You can't chrome your rims... Trust me, I am friends with the owner of North Star Fairmount, the largest chrome plating company in the province.. I've asked a few times.. To get them done they have to be shipped to ontario, and then stripped .5 inch, and skinned.. Its a huge and costly process...

i know... but i can dream. sux cause the polished rims are like 170 a piece, and the chrome are over 300 a piece. and i LOVE the chrome ones, but 300 is too much for a 17x7 for me. even doing the stock 14's would be over 200 a wheels to have refinished in chrome, that i actually DID look into

Personally I would go with a RWD pattern.. Get a firebird rim.. Similar to ours but 15's. Fit a nice and fat tire on the back... as they are 7.0's as well. Get the back ones widened.. Don't need to space them as they are offed properly to your 1'' widebody. Talk to Aura, hes a machinist right? Then you could sell or put your rims on the green one.. Hear what I am doing to my car? haha I'm getting a rolling chassis front kento next year, or I am going to split the cost of one with him, and 'trade' bodies, so I can get mine safetied and modified back to stock while I finish my body creations... PS, go on msn so we can chit chat.

yeah chase i know changing the offset would be ideal, i just don't see how it could be done to my wheels.
i might look into a wheel combo with the 17/18 and look for some that have a rwd offset for the rears. i just doubt that i'll find anything i like that will fit my bill, and it would be cheaper to modify the wheels i have than to buy new ones and modify them.
i'll probably phone up winnipeg wheel sometime and get a feel for there prices, ask about a 2" widening and how they change offset.

btw, richard is the machinist, it's just that carson and his dad can build anything, lol

i'm thinking this is gonna have to be my alternative to changing the offset. looks like something that would be quite simple to build for a machinist like richard. i'll definately have to chat with him about it

although these aren't too bad either, 17x7 and 18x9. it's the perfect size, although i don't think +38 will be enough of an offset to fit the back properly

but come on chase, look!
add the yellow centre caps i have and that would be SWEET

I disagree. I'm rolling on 18x9 (+38 offsets) by HP Design EVO Lightning rims and I think they fit perfectly. Grand it that you need to have coil overs in order for it to fit. Check out my pictures on this tread and see how well they fit.

keep in mind thought that i'm trying to fit a widebody, so unless those wheels stick out at least a full inch if not more than they won't fit for what i'm looking at, thus the spacers, the spacers would also allow me to run the lowering spring i have installed now instead of going to coilovers
it's cool that you have very similar wheels though, gives me a GREAT opportunity to see how they fit, thanks

having gone back up to look at your wheels, man, they fit the stock rear end PERFECTLY, i don't think i'd want it any other way on a stock one. great job!
