My wife is trying to make her way out this morning, and I am hopefully following shortly (had to come in to work.. argh). We are heading for my parents place in Hot Springs, AR. There's alot of people in my area (Sugar Land, SW Houston) that are staying. I think the traffic situation has alot to do with it. Everyone is in panic mode. Fortunatley the bad traffic means many many people are trying getting out. I hope those that stay make it safely. My wife's 86 GT is in the garage and my 86 SC is parked up sideways next to the garage door. Tried to get it as high up as possible. We're taking the Hyundais on the trip. I'll update y'all when I can. Wish me luck!
If you have a point person to gather phone numbers, and you post it soon, I'll contact that person with my info.

For those who know Jonathan (JScott) he is okay but is having some major dificulties in getting out of the path of Rita. He said that, "he's okay and will surive." He is currently at 1/2 tank of gas and with 1-2 gallons of extra gas. Jscott is driving the truck and the other car is being driven by his son's mother.
Due to the traffic jam and on the hwy since 8am today one of the cars is shutting off. He since got it re-started but is still in the traffic jam on the Hwy. The officals have opened up both sides of the freeway but all gas stations leading out are empty. No hwy patrols or FEMA can be found. Peoples' cars are stalled on the hwy, no gas and some are pushing their cars. This is totally messed up! I'm mad!
I hope that "all" will make it out safely.

Are there any Pennock people along Jonathan's route out of TX? He may not make it to his destination and may need assistance? By now he maybe 50 miles out? Anyone who is 100 miles out from Houston TX? All of the various motels leading out from Houston maybe booked?

Just spoke with jscott. He is doing ok and will get ahold of me if he needs help. I have suggested an alternate route to get him off IH 10 where he will go through smaller towns which should have gas. Traffic will be lighter and he should make better time.

The evacuation routes were useless. I may have driven all over the state of Texas, but I made it from SW Houston to Hot Springs AR in 15 hours. Almost double the normal time, but still far better than those people stuck on the major freeways. Anyhow, I am sitting here in the mountains, so I think I should be fine. I just hope everything is ok and clears up soon. I don;t work, I don't get paid

I just got off the phone with Jonathan. With the help of Cliff W and Songman....Jonathan and his family made it safely to San Antonio TX. Jonathan told me to say to everyone, "Evacuate early, have cash, extra gas tanks, credit card, and food provision." He said that the choptop might have not made it due to the limited gas tank size. He said you needed a 300+ mile range.
The hotel keep his room and didn't sell it (he payed by credit card) and Jonathan may stay a little longer to avoid traffic comming back to Houston on Sunday. He might be back late (00:00HR) Tuesday or Wednesday if the situation seem okay in TX?
Right now he is resting and will head-out to a local restraurant for a juicy steak.
