Standard CodeAlarm car alarm.

Disarm = Open doors
Arm = Lock doors
Trunk solenoid pops trunk.

When I got my car, I did not get keys to the doors. So instead of swapping outer door locks, I did the lazy thing and installed an alarm that locked/unlocked the doors. I went so far as to remove the rods that go between the outer lock and the latch. Cost? Under $100 for everything. I'm sure it could be done for $50 or less if you find the right alarm system.

I don't think you can even buy Keyless entry kits anymore, and if you could, why.

The reason is the price of car alarms have came down so much, that you can buy a car alarm and either install it or have it installed for about the same price as the old keyless kits.

I think even junk alarms come with the capability to lock and unlock doors.

If you don't already have power locks you need to buy the lock unlock solenoids for about 20 bucks.

I have had keyless trunk and doors on my car for about 4 years now. I don't know how I lived without it.

P.S. once you have keyless you will probably never lock your keys in your car again. As you always lock the doors with the key fob, so you always have the keys in your hand when you lock the doors.

Parts Express has everything you'd need. From modules, to the 30-Amp Bosch-style relays (typically need 2 for lock/unlock), to relay socket/wiring harnesses. Plus extra wire, heat shrink, black split loom, butane powered soldering irons... sigh, too many toys there.

Ebay's a good place to look too. I got my alarm from CircuitCity.com (the CodeAlarm remote start w/ Master Module system - CA535425PK ), and I picked up the alarm 'half' of the system on ebay for about $6 (the siren, mega-remotes, and extra sensors). Watch it with the CodeAlarm stuff, half the time, what you're looking at doesn't include a brain module.

Good luck. Installation takes a while (crawling around under the dash, and I'm a cut / strip / solder / heatshrink kind of installer). But it's worth it.

Being an installer I've had good experiances with Clifford Intelligaurd series, Code Alarm, Compustar and Autostart... Really depends on how much you want to spend and what features you want...

If you have power locks and trunk release in your car now and thats all you are looking for is a keyless remote system try this "VALIANT REMOTE CONTROL KEYLESS SYSTEM" $39.99 at J C Whitney...this is the system I put in my car years ago and it works great. Excellant write up on how to install on the Michigan Fiero site. Its easy to install, cheap and much more convient than the key.
