Well, after months of waiting and searching for rims for my 88GT, Vanessa, (see thread in signature), I finally found some rims for my 88 that will fit and allow me to put on some redictulously wide tires.
I was going to wait until the tires came and I put it all on the car...but that will be later this week and I just couldn't wait. Saturday, I am taking them to have the hub bore enlarged to 57.1mm, and then they should fit.
The fronts are 16X7 48mm offset, I don't think they will clear on stock 88s, but I have tubular lower control arms. They weigh 13.5 lbs each!
The rears were a little harder. I had to install longer studs and have custom 10mm thick spacers made (replicates hub for centering) that I designed in solid edge. The rears are 17X8.5" with a 48mm offset. I calculate a clearance of 5.5mm to the spindle.
The tires will be Falken Ziex ZE-512 W-Rated tires, with 205/50-16 front and 255/40-17 rear. They are going to be incredibly better than the accursed 195/65-15 snow tires I have on there now.
FieroOmar has been pushing Rota rims for months, but as far as I know, I am the only member of the forum to have Rota rims, let alone the 16X7/17X8.5 combo seen here!
I got these from www.18racing.com you can order a set by e-mailing sales@18racing.com I got them cheaper because I was waiting since January for a size that never came (16X8), but an identical set would be ~$650 shipped. That is not a quoted price, it is not necessarily how much they would cost, i have no idea how much they would be, you would have to e-mail and ask for a quote. Make sure you talk to Jessica and tell her that Christian referred you.
I have made several other mods recently, and after I get these rims on, I will post overall pics of my car.
Those will look really nice and the rears will be nice and wide. The only thing I would suggest is going for a wider front tire if you can. I have 205s on my wheels and they're much too skinny even for the front in my opinion.
they are nice rims, especially for the money, though not as good quality as the real rims they are replicated from....i have contemplaited going with the 17" in 8 inches wide Rotas....the offset is made specifically for Subaru (quite high). i WISH they made a deepdish rear though
Rotas are mainly known to import drivers, as they are replicas of Spoon rims (japanese co.) and RegaMaster rims as well, both of which are a higher quality version, but MUCH more pricey.
google it up

IMHO, the Slipstream wheel with its 5 spoke design is a natural for the Fiero. I think they look spectacular with the polished lip. Although I have not been "pushing" these wheels in the sense that I am marketing them, I do think they are a particularly nice looking wheel at a very good price. My biggest concern has been with the fairly high positive offset. Wheel spacers should correct that problem, but will add some additional weight (albeit minor).
Regarding the tires, the front tires may look a little puny when compared to the rear. You might consider the 225-50-16 which is effectively the same diameter as the 255-40-17. Moreover, based on my cursory look at Falken's site, the GRB FK-451 might be a better tire for you (offers better grip) unless you need an all season tire.
Maybe you can settle a question regarding these rims before you have the tires mounted. How much do the 17x8.5 rims weigh. I estimated about 20 lbs. (which is not bad for the size). Subydude said 22 lbs., but it wasn't clear whether they were including the shipping carton.
Very nice looking wheels. I'm anxious to see the photos of the car with the new wheels and tires.

They were 22lbs including the shipping carton according to ups.
I am using the 205 tires in front on purpose to balance the tire ground pressures. Ask Will about it.
I am going with the 512s because they have a 30k mileage warranty, and I know these things are going to wear fast with no rotationability.
I am going to weigh the fronts and rears before mounting, but the rears are considerably heavier than the front.
I was just joking with the "Pushing" comment, I have just looked through the archives and seen you mention them about 10 times, and noone ever buys them. I cannot wait to see them on my car!

Yes!! I love those rims. They're light and look great. I was going to get these for my car but couldn't find a vendor that had them in the right offsets and sizes in our bolt pattern; apparently you figured thatou! Any chance you could post pics of the front and rear clearance? I have stock lower control arms.. but that rim only goes in an inch more with that offset, I would think there's that much clearance in the stock setup? Otherwise not a big deal to get 17x7 front. Let us know if the center caps fit once they're on the car.. Also, can the shop you had the spacers made at make more sets for the rest of us 88 owners that want to push our rear wheels out some?

Ok guys, I am getting them machined on saturday. I should also be getting the wheels put on on saturday. The pics requested will be posted late sunday prolly, because I am going to re-paint the calipers, bleed the brakes, and re-route the brake lines then. I will take pics of:
15" 87GT rims over the 12" corvette rotors spacers longer lugs in the rear front and rear clearances brake line routing side shot of the car with the 87GT rims side shot of the car with new rims
Steven,
The spacers I designed cost me $35 each, made out of 6061 T-6 aluminum plate stock. The machine shop guy specifically told me that additional spacers were going to be more expensive, because he underestimated the difficulty. If I were to start selling them, they would be $45-$50 each at my cost, and tack on a little profit and shipping and everyone would be looking at $65-$70 each. That is above a fair price. I am sorry, but I am not going to release my design for liability reasons. I know there is some dumbass out there who would make them, put them on without lengthening the lugs, and sue me when he loses a wheel at 80mph and slams into a tree. They are basically no different from the stock setup (strengthwise) when you use longer lugs, but I know someone would sue me for something.
I am sure the centercaps will fit. They have their own groove to snap into on the wheels, and they have plenty of clearance underneath for the axles in the back. They also have plenty of clearance to the lugnuts.

Originally posted by Bigfieroman: The fronts weighed in at 13.9 lbs and the rears were 21.1 lbs.
Just about what I expected. While the 21.1 lbs. might sound heavy, one h-as to remember that this is a 17x8.5" rim. Yes, lighter wheels are available, but it would be hard to find a lighter wheel that beats the price on the Rota wheels. By comparison, according to my scale (which I believe to be reasonably accurate, but which has never been certified by Dept. of Agriculture) the 16x7" Beretta GTZ wheel weighs close to 20 lbs. My Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 wheels weigh 16 lbs. for the 17x7 front and 20 lbs. for the 17x8 rear wheels. Rota has had the Slipstream out for 3 - 4 years, but until recently, they were offered only in 15x6.5", 15x7", and 16x7", and offsets were limited to 40mm or 48mm. The Pro Race 1 is available in multiple offsets from 25 - 45mm.
In any event, posting pictures of your car with these wheels just may start a trend.

Got them installed! Less than 1/4th" to the strut...whew, that was a close one! I got the centers bored out this afternoon, went to the tire shop, and had the new tires and wheels installed. I am going to take some better pics tomorrow and start a new thread. I am also going to re-paint the calipers and bleed the brakes.
FieroOmar, your dream has come true!
So wide!
I am going to return the tires and get another brand on monday. They are nice, and have good grip, but they have some of the worst (soft) sidewalls I have ever felt in a tire. The car feels downright dangerous when cornering hard, and pumping them up to the max pressure of 51PSI helped, but not enough. I am supremely disappointed.
Enjoy the pics!

Thanks a lot for the compliments guys. It took over 80 hours of research to determine the fit and sizes needed for the tires. In the end, I calculated roughly 5.5mm of clearance to the strut upright, and from what I can tell, I have about 7mm. All without ever touching or measuring from a 17" wheel.
I am glad you guys like them...I definately do.
