Corey Nicholas Rudl, 34; Internet Marketing Pioneer Was Motocross Champion as a Teen By Valerie J. Nelson, Times Staff Writer
Corey Nicholas Rudl, who died Thursday in a high-speed car crash at California Speedway in Fontana, was considered by many to be an Internet marketing pioneer.
The 34-year-old Rudl, of La Jolla, was a passenger in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT when the car, driven by Benjamin Miles Keaton, 39, veered off the track, struck a barrier and caught fire. Keaton also died.
In 1989, he started a mail-order business selling parts for the discontinued Pontiac Fiero. Sales topped a reported $250,000 before he sold the company.

The 2005 Porsche Carrera GT went out of control, left the inside track and careened onto the grass, hit a barrier and caught fire at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, San Bernardino County officials said.
The passenger, Corey Nicholas Rudl, 34, died at the scene. The driver, Benjamin Miles Keaton, 39, was airlifted to Loma Linda University Hospital, where he died about an hour later, according to the county coroner's office.
The La Jolla men were not burned but died of crash injuries, Supervising Deputy Coroner Randy Emon said.
Both men were wearing helmets and safety belts but the car was doing more than 100 mph when it crashed, authorities said.
"The driver's side was in good shape, but the passenger side was obliterated," Emon said.
The accident occurred while the track was being rented by the San Diego chapter of the Ferrari Owners Club, speedway spokesman Dennis Bickmeier said.
That's sad news and rather shocking since the car doesn't look that bad. I've seen cars flip over numerous times and come to rest torn to pieces and yet the driver has walked away unharmed.

I hope you all don't mind but over the next few days, as I think about Corey, I'm going to post my memories of him.
In no particular order.....
He must have been about 18 or 19 when I did the 1st of 2 V-8 swaps for him. It was a black '84 4 speed car & it was a budget swap if you will. He drove the car down from Canada. We did the swap in 4 days & he drove it back to Canada when we were done.
He operated a Fiero parts business out of a small town near Barrie, Ontario Canada called Fiero Plus. It was mostly a "Drop Ship" operation but if it was available for a Fiero, he'd find it for you.
He also got into reselling Kit Car bodies & drove a TR replica for a long time.
After he sold Fiero Plus, He wrote a book called "How to Build a Kit Car Dirt Cheap". For several years He used to sell these books each year in building "T" at the Carlisle Kit Car Show. The last time I saw him selling the books at Carlisle was about 5 or 6 years ago.
I believe the last time I saw him was on the Maurie Povich show. Him & his dad were part of a panel discussion about successful small book publishing companies.
To this day his dad remains in the Kit Car industry selling real Ferrari & Lambo lights & Badges to replica builders.

I saw those pictures in the OT thread and didn't think a whole lot about it. After all, people die in wrecks all the time. However, once you see who the people are and learn a bit about them, it strikes a little closer to home. Very sad news...

Archie thanks for sharing those memories, really brings Corey to life for those of us who never had the opportunity to meet him. Feel free to share others.
Also hearing the account of how the accident occurred really brings life into perspective. Man you better enjoy and cherish every second that you have because you never know when it may come to an end, via your actions or those of someone else.
It only takes a split second for it to be all over.
Remember that when you see your loved ones each day.

I talked with Corey on the phone a couple of times and bought stuff (glovebox, rear sway bar, poly dogbone, poly bushings) from Fiero Plus+ when I first bought my Fiero in 1990. I still have the catalogs. The last time I talked with him, he was heading for the States. I did get a copy of his Build a Kit Car Dirt Cheap book.
