So i picked up some 18"x7.5 with 45mm offset. This is for a 88GT , what tire sizes should i go
with? i'm looking at something like 225/40/18 front, and 245/40/18 rear. PICTURES would help if anyone
has some around. any other info is a +

You might want to go with a 45 series tire in the front, and 45 mm is a little too much offset for the rear. You might have to try and squeeze a 255 tire on the back to cmpensate.

Ideally for an 88, you want a wheel that's about an inch narrower in the front with 10 mm more offset or the wheels will appear to stick out. And in the rear you need no more than 35 mm of offset or the wheels are going to look tiny. I hope that helps.

For the front use 235/40/18 and a 18x7.5 use a 245/40/18 for better looks and handling.

Why a 235? Better cornering, tire stands straight-up on the rim, and it reduces the changes of damaging the rims. Why 245? the tire will stand straight up on the lip w/o bluging. using a 245/40/18 is better vs. a 245/45/18 because it visually looks better and reduces flexing. How do I know? I have that size in the rear. My size are 19x7.5 on a 245/35/19 in the rear. The fronts are 19x7.5 on 225/35/19 which are old tires that were laying around in the garage. I do have 235/35/19 waiting to be mounted.

Question: have you first tested the rims on the car for clearance?

EDIT: Like JScott said, a 245 does look tiny on rear. But I got these rims practically free.......so a "mounting" I go! Also, depending which tire you use, a 245 isn't recommended for a 7.5 rim. A 255 will might lead to the tire comming off. Some tire mounting places will not mount them in that size. You will need at least a 8" rim. The Dirty "Rat" is a good example of a tire company who's tires run a wee bit wider.

I have 225/40/18 front, and 245/40/18 rear on my yellow car with 35mm offset wheels. I don't see issues with 45mm offset other than the front ones will look better with it. Go for it

well i already have the rims, they're clearing with tons of room. Even with the 45mm offset. they have a set of 215/35/18's on them right now. The width of the tires that are on there are close to the fronts, but the 35 series is way to small. So i'll go with
225/40/18 front, 245/40 rear, that should look nice. thanks for the input guys. Does any one have any pictures of 18's? i was looking all over the forum

Yah, they look really nice with the deep lip. I'm just starting to figure out if i'll have them on by the time the ralley is around.
tires are going to cost an arm and a leg. And the original 15" lace wheels have brand new tires all around. i do
want to get the front springs in before i go

Yeah you are right... 245 is pushing it for a 7.5 and 255 is insane. I have 245/40 17 on 8 inch wheels and they look tiny. I'm going to try and squeeze a 255 on there next time.

I believe my rims are the exact same size as the ones you are considering and i think the tires are 245/40's all around. Personally I wish the rear tires were bigger. But see sig.
