Well while coming back from the mall with my wife we are just driving normally down the road at the speed limit and such. I realize I am going to need to be over a lane to the right and this means going infront of a patrol car.....no big deal, plenty of room, used my signal etc... Then he immediately throws on the lights and stops me.
hmmmmmmm wondering what for.
Me: hi, how ya doing? Officer : fine thank you, I stopped you because your windows are tinted. Me: (suprised look on face, tempted to say "no really, what did you stop me for?". but instead ok, sorry I didn't know that was a problem (yah right LOL). I explain that cars get broken into a lot where I live and I prefer if people can't see into the car.
He is fine with this, takes my licenese, paperwork, checks it all out and lets me with a warning that another officer may stop me for that limo tint.
Ofcourse I am plenty fine with the outcome, I was just shocked to get pulled over for that. I tend to find if your nice to them, they are usually nice back.
Just thought I would share

Yea I also noticed that if your nice them they can be nice back, but not always. For example this one time I was coming home for the weekend from ohio to maryland, it is about 130 in the morning and I get pulled over for doing 64 in a 55. The officer said he pulled me over because I looked under the age of 18 and in MD people who are under age aren't allowed to drive after midnight. So I explained to him where I was coming from and everything and that I was just trying to get home. Still got the ticket. Ohh well it happens that way sometimes.

A few years back a cop was shot through a tinted window here, and they got really really nazi about tinted windows. The problem was one ignorant punk witha gun, but they for some reason blame the window tint. Anyway, about a year after the cop was shot, My friend Josh got pulled over with limo tint on his side windows. The cop told him to roll up his window and open the door. Josh didn't really understand, but he did as he was told. The cop raked a key or pocket knife or something across his tint and said " Now you have to take it off." Well, that cop got suspended and had to pay for the professionally tinted window to be redone with new glass, because he has a prescription for it. An eye doctor can give you a prescription for window tint if you wear contacts and your eyes are sensetive to bright sunlight. I wish i could have seen the cops face when Josh handed him the form from his glove box, closed the door and called 911. A cop being led off for criminal property dammage by other cops is just precious to me.
cop: are you aware that you were going 91 in a 55? me: no officer, honestly I wasn't even paying attention, its kinda early int he morning and i'm not really awake yet cop: lisence and registration...... heres your ticket, drive safe
I guess I am just used to having lived in New Jersey, where your usually just happy to get the ticket and not SHOT lol. Here in California I tend to find they have been very nice to me. I remember being in houston one time and getting stopped on the highway for doing 105mph. I kept thinking to myself, ok I am going to jail, they are going to take my license, impound the car etc... I did get the ticket for I think 95 in a 75, but well better then what I expected especially in Texas.
This one that stopped me yesterday actually kinda joked around saying "I just am amazed you fit in this car". I am 6'6 and appx 250lbs. I went into explaining how low your sitting, no backseat, and all the leg room, and he said yah my buddy has one of these and I barely fit into it. He wasn't a big guy though, so maybe his buddy has a miata or an mr2 hahahha

I got pulled over because my nochback "rear" windows were tinted too dark. Once I told him they were sail panels and not windows he looked inside to verify that and let me go

Haha, I don't think I would be able to look at the cop in the face after that one. In fact I would probably ask for his badge number just to varify the story for my friends

hehe window tint sounds like something you would get stopped for around here. Matt got stopped for inpersonating an emergency vehicle with his neons under his truck and he got stopped for squeeling his wheels and "damageing government property" well, leaving black marks. Oh and one time I was walking to 7-11 about midnight for a snack and a cop pulled over and wanted to see ID cause it was past cerfew (sp) I was 22 at the time. Sometimes I think cops are just bored

Wow! That cop was "literary" taking the law in his own hand.

I would agree that really dark tint makes driving at twilight dangerous. The legal limit in VA is 50% on the sides. As long as you have dual side mirrors you can go dark on the rear window, but even there I only went 35%. I really don't think limo tint looks that good.
