I have an extra hood prop and was thinking of using it to keep the decklid up since my spring is boke. Anyone done this or have pics of where it would be mounted?
Use a broom stick like most kit car owners do after spending all that money. Sorry I had to say that, but Rodney Dickman has a very nice set up on his web site...

I have a prop rod I picked up at the junkyard in the Ferrari kit....same as a real Ferrari has btw. Think it came off an Escort. Had a nice little bracket that just screwed to the strut tower, and put a little plug in the inside of the engine cover to stick the end in. I dont mind keeping things simple, works just fine.

I've got one installed on my car. I don't have pictures but could maybe shoot some tonight and post. The trick to using the front hood prop in the rear is to make sure the lock coinsides with the correct opening height. If I remember, I had to trim both ends to get it right. If I can get the pictures, I also post the measurements.

That would be great, Im just so sick of having the "ghetto prop" as you could say
I use a prop on mine made out of the old spring that was broke on the deck when I got it. The other spring is still in place and helps when I lift the decklid. I have a v8 and do not have a dog bone but another hole close can be drilled in that area that will work. I cut the old spring leaving a L crook on one end. Leave the L crook long enough to go threw the hole at the dog bone area and put a piece of rubber hose on the end so it cannot come back off through the hole when proped. Cut the other end the proper length to fit in the corner of the molded area that lies under the engine compartment and put another piece of hose on the end of it leaving the hose a little over the end so the rubber will rest in that corner on the deck. Take a strip of thin metal and make a clip for the prop to rest in when the deck is closed next to the front side of the trunk in the engine compartment. Mine has been working since I put it together in 1998.
Sorry I don't have pics

The first picture is my top bracket. I used the factory pivot and reshaped the Fiero bracket to wrap around the rear deck hing. I then used the top hinge bolt to secure it into place.
Again, I reused a piece of the old Fiero bracket to fab the lower mount.
If I remember correctly, I had to shorten the lower portion of the prop rod. Use the tape measure as a reference to make sure when you make your bracket. Note where the locking points are. Be sure that your bracket will latch the deck lid open without over extending the opening angle.
Here is the rest of the length (sorry, I couldn't get far enough away to get the whole rod in one shot AND hold the tape measure at the same time ).
I think these pictures will be enough to help you make your own.

Thought about this myself a few times, actually, I like it better than some of the struts I've seen, kind of keeps it more Fiero. Good thread, this might be just enough to motivate me to do something, when it warms up that is.
