So, I'm getting a fiero, used to have a 2m4 but that got impounded. I believe I posted here about it before...

So, this is the new Fiero story.. Heres the ad I ran across when looking for a good car, http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=174691181&dealer_i

I've always liked Fieros, and decided on getting this once since it seemed a good deal.

v6, 4 speed 1985 Fiero GT
Power windows, locks
Sunroof
New Kevlar Racing Clutch
Had flywheel resurfaced
Replaced manfold and oil pan gaskets
Replaced Spark Plugs, Wires, Caps, Rotors
Replaced the entire e-brake cable system completely with new OEM one, though he said it'd need adjusting
Ported and polished manifolds
New Alternator and Starter
All heat shieds were reconstructed
Replaced headlight motors

He told me the oil pressure is at like 40 all the time, which is real good for an older car

Another big point is, he sandblasted alot of the car, when he had the engine out, did a ton of sandblasting and coated a majority of the car in POR-15, which I'm very pleased to hear

He said it runs like a dream, is pretty speedy, but said because the clutch is a bit much for the car as it's got a 10k redline, that it shudders a bit off 1st, but shoots forward real real fast...

He said the slave cylinder seeps a little, but said if I payed the 50$ for a new one and helped him bleed it, that he'd replace it for me before I got it off him

Also, the headliner is drooping a bit, not sure how bad, but we'll see
Tear in the drivers seat, typical of course

AC needs charging, and I think thats about it

He listed it as 2,300$ but I didnt want to spend this much, so I got him down to 1900, 1950 after the slave cylinder.

Seems like a great deal to me, only 61k miles and all! I'm going today to give him 1,200$ down, and gonna test drive it and see how I like it. sad for me, I wont be able to get it until I get him the other 750$, but I understand on his part, wouldnt wanna get robbed. Plus, he's gonna do the slave cylinder, and such, so it should be a good deal anyway, worth the wait.

I'm sure you all know what these cars look like, but its pretty much this car, minus the fact that its a completely different car
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/393043/1

Well, what do you all think? What kind of things should I look to do with this car, once I get my tax return? I want to replace the headliner, I'll probably take it to a shop for that, but what about replacing some things, like the tail-lights or something to make it cooler?

Also, what about curling in the dash, he said it was starting to happen too, I'll take pics when I get a chance!

UPDATE
I went to see the car today and was VERY pleased. It's super SUPER clean, inside and out. The inside of course could use a good shampooing, but the headliner is liveable with for a while.. I think the sunroof might leak, he wasnt sure whether it would or not as he hadn't had it out in the rain.. The por-15 job was excellent, and he also wrapped an assload of the car in 1000 degree heat tape kinda stuff..

He seemed to ahve popped a fuse on the headlight motors, as it didnt work when we tried to get them on, but he promised he'd fix them at no cost to me because he had them working before. Pretty angry was he when they didnt turn on, it was amusing, but he was super embarrased by it.. Sure is a man of his word, a really great guy overall..

What else, the steering wheel was real loose, like not steering but like the column was all shakable and stuff, kinda wierd, but he bought this tool to pop off the cover and replace these three screws, he's also gonna replace the cracked winshield wiper/turn signal thing with a new chrome one while he was at it... That'll fix the steering and all..

Also, the slave cylinder was real funky, leaked quite a bit, and made driving it very wierd, cause the clutch went in really spongy and strange, also there was air in the lines so he said once we bleed the lines and replace the slave cylinder it'd be really nice and smooth...

When we started it, it ranlike a dream, revved up real nice, and besides the obvious clutch and steering thing, it was real smooth and nice. I was a bit worried about the brakes, they seemed real soft, no idea how to explain it.. I'm guessing its cause the car sat for three weeks and the rotors had a bit of rust buildup on them... Any ideas there? I want the brakes in tip top shape, he had replaced the rear brake pads but he hadnt replaced the front ones... It just seemed kinda shitty braking, and I want the best braking possible with this snow up here, and the lightness of the car

Other than that, it was in awesome shape. Barely any rust at all except for thise little holes that go into the floorboard under the car, no wet spots anywhere in the engine or in the front, everythings dry as a bone, no oil leaks, absolutely nothing, the car was in pristene condition. There was almost no problems on the outside, the paint job is very nice, theres only a super small crack in the rear passenger side, barely even noticable..

Oh, and the AC belt broke, he started it, it squeeled a bit, then broke.. No idea there, he's gonna try and fix it or make sure it works or something, we'll see

He seemed like a very upstanding fellow, really cool, loved to talk about everything, and he was telling me everything he could about the car... He's also giving me a rear strut assembly, tons of extra wiring harnesses and switches and all for it... Everything he has.

So I think thats all I've got for an update, it drove super nice, very very VERY quick on the start, the clutch made it wierd to shift cause of that little slave cylinder problem, but other than that it was quick, handled real well, and sounded GREAT. We signed the contract, did everything all good and legal like, and I owe another 750$! Howsabout I get 1000 of you to donate .75 cents to me to pay for it, paypal is olorin.v3@gmail.com!

See ya folks, more updates soon!

All that stuff he says he did? I'd ask for parts/labor receipts or at least look for physical signs that the work was actually done. For the A/C, short across the pressure switch connector using a paper clip, and see if the compressor kicks in. Another good idea BEFORE any money changes hands is to take it to a mechanic you trust and let him check it over. If the guy balks at letting your mechanic look at it, run, do not walk, away from the deal.
As far as the money down? Insist on a written contract, and get a receipt for the money you've paid so far. Good intentions are one thing, bidness is bidness, as they say here in Nashville.

He's got parts reciepts for everything, I'm getting all of it.

I'll definitely take into practice the A/C idea, definitely!
And yes, I'ma have my mechanic look at it, he already said he'd have no problem with it

We are going today, and I'ma sign a contract with him, it was him who suggested it in the first.

Sounds like a good deal.

I just recently bought a Fiero that sounds very similar to the one you're looking into.

Mine is an:
'85 Fiero GT, V6 2.8l Muncie 4.10 4spd
Sunroof (needs seals, but temporarily patched up so it doesn't leak, still opens)
Power Windows and Locks (windows a little sluggish)
New Borg/Warner clutch
Headlight motors worked fine, new 8.8 accell wires, and replaced quite a few small parts, I'd have to dig the list back up.
No headliner

Basically, what it needed: New seals, Headliner, Stereo, paint job, and as I found out after I bought it, front brakes.

I bought for the first price he gave me, 2000. He did offer to replace the headliner and seals, for an extra 500 dollars, but I passed and bought it as is for 2000. It has 90.6k miles.

On a colder than usual day, the oil pressure gauge warms up to near 70, and then after a few minutes drops down 60. When we first bought it and drove it home, the needle would usually hover inbetween 40-60. Not something I'm terribly worried about right now, since we still haven't got the front brakes totally ironed out.

Sounds like a good deal, or atleast a better one than I got. I'm still happy with my car, but I'll be happier when I find another job and can start pouring all of my checks into my Fiero (I'm 17).

Edit: Yeah, just looked at it's cardomain site. If it's real good condition mechanicly, sounds like a steal. Cosmetically, mine didn't even look half as good as that one, no wing, and the seats/interior are pretty worn (but he threw in free seat covers and window tint, heh)

Maybe hes color blind, or thought it was asking the color of the moldings...

Anyways, good luck with the car. Looks good!
