So Maryland MVA policy says in 2005 I can get Historic Tags- the car is 20 years old and is no longer in production.

I generally try to keep a low profile- no vanity tags or bright paint on my cars and bikes ( One look at me and people think "Guilty"). But the Historic Tags may make my neighbors think I'm "restoring" rather than "fixing" my Fiero.

Any other good reason to wait 3 hours at the MVA to get Historic Tags?

i was thinking the same thing but in illiinois i think you can only drive a historic or classic car 6 months out of the year and only put a few thousand miles... if that on them. and you might only be able to drive it on some weekends and holidays but im not sure about that.

Here in Michigan you are limited to the number of miles you can put on a car with historic plates. I do not plan to put more than 1500 miles per year on my car, however if I decided to drive to a show that was 2000 miles or more away from my home, I want to be able to do that.

A friend of mine works at the MVA here. I'll ask her about it.

I do know that there are mileage limitations and it must be a stock car with no modifications and such. It also cannot be remodeled... that one got my dad. He is in the process of fixing up a 1947 International KB1 and they said he had to get "street rod" plates because it was restored. That's all I know on the subject, but I'll ask my friend tonight for you.

Hey JT6666,

How's it going ? I used to live in Montgomery County !!! I was born there.

Lived between Silver Spring & Wheaton, Right off Georgia Ave, between Plyers Mill Rd & Dennis Ave.

Went to Albert Einstein High School. I bought my Fiero while I lived there.

Just thought I'd say hello, I'll try & send you some warmer weather this winter.

Sorry, I couldn't find anything out... that is a different department than she works in.

My best friend went to Einstein in the late 60's, Back then, they didn't medicate the Problem children- they sent them to Einstein . it was the closest thing to a reform school you could have in prestigeous Montgomery County. Very cool kids! I went to Northwood. Much tamer. The cops in Wheaton-Kensington recognized our cars on sight- I had a 65 289 Mustang and he had a 283 Malibu- we drove with straight pipes- no mufflers. Back then (1969-71) you just got inspection tickets, no $ fines, so we'd hang mufflers on the cars only long enought to pass inspection!

Lived on Jamaica Drive off Republic Road off Plyers Mill- Girlfriend lived on Dennis. I graduated Northwood 1969- looks like we were in the same place at different times. I'm in Aspen Hill now.
Every year i swear I'm gonna move to florida- almost moved to Clearwater last year and Crystal River the year before that. Now Naples is lookin' like a garden spot. I didn't recognize your town.

Oh Yeah- Historic Tags- no Milage restrictions- it seemed it is almost like a specialized Vanity Tag here. Suprisingly, It might bring down the insurance rate- it did on my 68 Shelby Mustang a few year ago.

I checked here in Missouri a couple of months back and the car has to be 25 years old, and 1000 miles per year limit. You also have to keep a mileage log record in the car at all times to prove your driving the car only to shows or being repaired somewhere.

The only benefit is no emissions test or safety inspections. With my GT modified as much as it is I don't think the cops would like to see the GT with Historic Tags on it.
