Well then Jennifer, you've got first hand experience with trying to squeeze help from the members. My rant above sounded as if I am against clubs in general, and that is not true. I just don't want to put the amount of work effort into one like I did before.
All those years, I would have loved to be one of the members who came, and went home without much effort. I was probably on an ego trip to make things as best as possible and after I gained some recognition, it fueled the fire.

I've been president of Golden Gate Fieros for something like 3 years, and I'd like to suggest that folks in a club do whatever they can to help. Volunteer, ask, do something. There is a tendency for the members to sit back and let the club's leadership do everything, especially if they are already doing everything. Please, try to help those who run your local club (or, in the case of CFOGI, a national club).

Yes even 15 minutes of your time at a show is a godsend!

I joined FOCOA when I got my first Fiero because I came acrosss it on a search and it was having it's 'national" show at a locaton reasonably near me. My wife got me a membership with the local club MAFOA for Christmas that same year but nothing ever came of it until I ran into some members at that National FOCOA show and complained about not receiving anything for 8 months. (That has since changed). I met a lot of nice people who I still get to meet quite a few times every year and converse with by email all of the time. My complaints/suggestions got me elected Treasurer, but I'm happy to do it and other duties at the club events.
PFF is great too for different reasons that can't totally be supplied by a club because it has such a larger base of people to gain infromation from. It makes it even better when you meet someone from PFF at a show/event that you've only ever 'chatted' with.
Keep up the good work, Madame President!

I joined Nefa and Mafoa cause I thought it would be fun to be part of the clubs, go to the shows, and get to know people... While I have no problem joining a club as a new member, there are times when I consider renewing. As far as these two clubs, I'll probably renew for Mafoa (which I have yet to do) but most likely not NEFA. I enjoy the people at Nefa, the gatherings are great, theres just nothing that really lures me in. I have attended a show here and there, but I no longer have a show worthy car. I can still get the same newsletter as a member of Mafoa, and if I choose to go to a show, theres a nice discount for carlisle. Seems the only thing out of a NEfA membership, I get from mafoa. I can still go to the shows and meetings as a non-member, however, supporting them as a paying member allows for them to keep putting on such shows... If I do renew, its not so I can say I'm included as a member, or because I feel there are benefits, just mostly so I can give them a few bucks to keep them alive.

We could use some type of name tag that states that we visit this board. I've seen this done (and used a few) on other message boards whereby I was able to meet other people from all over the world. It doesn't need to be a fancy item, maybe just something with the PFF logo on it stating that you visit here and you fill in your user name. These are normally printed on paper with sticky backing and applied directly to your shirt for the day.
[EDIT] Oh yeah, what are you recieving from FOCOA that nobody else seems to get?
