I was thinking about building a Corvair powered sand rail and using the engine out of my Dad's '61 Monza. (110hp engine) Aircooled might be a bit easier to work with on that.
Very cool, though. I've never seen a Fiero powered sand rail before.

i was thinking about doing that but decided not to because the transverse transmissions are on the weak side. i am curious to see how much of a beating that thing can handle.

I think my father and I are going to be building something just about like that this winter. Thanks to the 4.9 Project I have a donor motor for it. We also have a 4.10 tranny we'll be putting in. How would you all go about mounting it? My dad wants to use the fiero cradle, but I think that this would be a bad idea based on ground clearance, etc. How much of an angle can the axles take before bad things happen?

My thoughts exactly. I have often thought about taking the complete rear cradle and a complete front suspension including cross member, jig up hte parts that are needed to be bolted to the frame of the car, run a tube style frame between the 2 parts. Once the basics of the frame you could set it up and make it into a race car add some big wheels and run it off road. With so little weight it would be one heck of a run around vehicle.
