What classifies a car as a show car?
Is it determined if you show your car at a show and take a trophy?
Is there a curtain amount of awards you have to take to have the be classified as a show car?
Does the Insurance company determin if the car is show car quality?
Is show car status determined by the Insurance Company?

it is a show car if the owner wants it to be. so fix it up, show it, and call it what you want!

In order to classify it as a "show car" You need to have another car as your daily driver and have it insured for it's appraised value.
Those are the conditions of my Insurance company. This is only for insurance purposes.
You just have to have the car appraised. They do not decide if it's a show car, It is a status you select.

What exactly are you looking to do? Get Show Car insurance?

many insurance companies have strict rules regarding special policies. Like what kind of storage is used, wood steel garage, mileage driven, and lots of other stuff. I have a policy through allstate. It's a standard policy, but with a 7k payout if deemed totaled. In most cases you have to have your car appraised for this kind of policy. Be sure to keep all reciepts related to your car even for small stuff like oil changes. Shop around a bit through different companies. There was a thread on this a few months ago, and if I remember right some companies won't even insure the fiero.

ANY car can be a show car. Going to local shows, you would be amazed at some of the junk people consider show cars. I even saw a Camaro that had been brush painted at one last year. For insurance what you want is more specificly called Classic Car or Collector Car insurance.

State Farm only allows you to drive the car back and forth to shows, cruises and other "club" events. Can't be driven to work or to run errands technically. However they do not limit the mileage otherwise.

Someone posted this link before to American Hobbyist Insurance, and it sounds like a nice deal.

Has anyone had any dealings with these people?

than that is the point? if you cant take it out even for a nice sunday drive every once in a while, than why even bother? i do not believe in trailering a car, and i never will unless it is broke!

Jen, I have State Farm and my Ferraro is insured for agreed value. The only stipulation here is that I have another registered car that I drive. I can store it anywhere, including the front lawn, drive it anytime I want, anywhere I want, no milage limit and all year round. They just say I cant use it for my primary transportation. Dates, joyrides, errands are all fine.

I also have an agreed value insurance policy. I had the car appraised and that was all that was required. No driving or storage restrictions. $596 a year with full collision and glass coverage. (t-tops hehe)

It's different in every state...Texas is the one state that does not offer AGREED VALUE policies, so here you can forget about that option. The best bet is the appraisal then shop around to see what the best deal is. Good luck.
