Okay, I'm Skank many of you probably don't know me but i have this tale to tell it goes as follows...
i was driving down speedway last week and a red viper RT/10 pulls me over ... black limo tint .. can't see the driver. We drive side by side for a while and at a stop light he rolls down his window and says "Hey nice car" ... i thought oh HAHA you can be sarcastic to a fiero how cool are you. but then as the light turned green he says "Hey get behind me and follow me real quick." So naturally i follow. BTW Onyx (My 87 burgundy GT) is driving on clouds from flirting with a viper. We pull into a nearby coffee shop parking lot. he parks. i park.
he walks over as i'm getting out. i tap the gas as i'm turning her off. i know i'm not the only one who does this. He gives a look like 'impressive for a little car'. I walk up and i shake his hand. he starts explaining immediatly because i'm looking at him as if to say .. "and you wanted...?"
he says "okay pop your .. trunk... hood.. back thing.' 'I Gotta see the thing that carries these little devils around." so i of course do so. he opens the rear and looks like "wow, that's a pretty good looking, decorative engine." and he says ... "wow looks like a little corvette back here!" Onyx giggled with pride. i reply with "yeah, it was nicknamed the poor mans corvette."
"Oh really" he stands back and eats onyx with his eyes. "what's her year?"
"She's an 87 GT." i told him loving his interest.
"That musta been the same for the one who got me interested in these little cars." he said gathering my ear as if it'd fallen to the ground.
"a friend has one?" i blurted because that is often the case.
"no no no i was on grant the other day and i went to pass one of these and it wouldn't let me. of course i am faster but he gave me a run for my money!"
"he past the other cars got over and let me pass. i gave him a thumbs up and was on my way." he said in story mode."but i totally respected the amount of power versus the dollars spent for the car." he added.
"yeah they do have a good bit of kick. mostly cause they weigh next to nothing and have a V6 pushing them." i ran my mouth
"yeah i almost regret getting that monster over there becuase she put a helluva dent in my wallet and still gets trashed by the guy at my work with a turbo corvette." he said ... every word like candy to my ears.
"If i had the engine i wanted in this little car it'd bully your car too. Sorry." i said with a laugh.
"No no it's true i just saw this Viper and splurged." he spoke as we walked over to the viper. i notice at this time that he's running his fingers down the side and back of Onyx. he'd been doing it for a while.
"Well, she does look damned fine though." i said tring to be polite.
"yeah, but your car has a very attractive design too." he said returning the favor.
"Yeah but the Fiero is Hardly the symbol for american power that yours is." i said
"But Really if you ask a japanese person what his favorite american car is 9 times out of 10 it's corvette or mustang. every now and then you hear viper but not as much as any other answer i've heard."
"yeah but how many times have you heard Fiero?" "
"a fine point!" he laughed
"so you do work in japan?" i asked
"yeah i actually..."

Well the conversation kinda drifted from cars at that point but he had his hands all over Onyx and obviously liked her. he had no harsh words for her.
He didn't even say "engine fire" Once!
When we were leaving he noted that i should get my stock engine turbocharged instead of getting the engine swap. it showed his knowledge of fiero went as far as the car he flirted with and mine today. He said that if the car he ran with had the same 2.8 as i did i should hang on to this car cause a little work would make her worth running with the euro's and kings of domestic (viper, vette etc.).
Onyx misses him till this day. I hope he gets a fiero.
-Skank.

All I can say is if he comes back around, have him contact me, I'll gladly trade him two Formulas of his choice for that Viper. Great Story.

It is a cool feeling. I had a similar experience with a SS Camaro.

Yeah i'm doing okay ... Onyx is okay too. She doesn't really like the heat though damned AZ. It was surprising because i haven't even been pulled over by another fiero owner (yet).
the guy also said he used to trash on fieros till one gave him a run for his money.

My proudest Fiero moments are when I see poeple looking at it and talking about it as I walk up to it in parking lots. Never anything like a viper, but it makes you smile, especially when you have to explain to younger people that it in fact is not a Ferrari. Well, that and every time I show my tail lights to a retard in a civic with $10,000 in the body, and nothing but fancy oil in the engine. You never run out of ricers. At least once a week one of these jackasses winds up next to me at a light. They inch foreward like 20 times and rev, then I dirt them at half throttle. Gotta love stupid people.

Sort of reminds me of this guy at work. Everyday I looked at PFF and he'd catch me looking at it, and make fun of the car. Well, then he logged on to pff and kept looking at fieros. Before I knew it, he was on the internet 6 hours a day instead of doing his work, and wanting to talk about fieros with me. Now he's trying to get one. Go figure.

Awesome story... I've had pretty much the same thing once with a viper but due to my looks its more deceiving...
I had actually beat and old viper off the line a few years back and the guy about fell out of the car at then next light when I said.. Kitcar, Fiero underneath!!! (No I didn't really beat him off the line, He just spun them though third!! LOL)

and once I had a Really Ferrari 308 pull me over to talk about the car. The guy was ready and willing to trade cars. He swore up and down he'd never get another Ferrari unless he was collecting, To drive one its just not practical and deadly on your wallet. Unlike having a rebody that done right can blow the doors of its lookalike, and do it for a fraction of the cost. (sometimes a fraction of the cost of a tuneup!! )

The way that guy was going on about your car, It sounded like he had cash in his pocket burning for another car splurge. I bet you could of raped him on price cause I wouldn't doubt if he buys one really soon. Just to play with even.. Did you inform him about PFF???

Gotta love these lil moments!! L8
