My dad gave me a copy of "Cars and Parts" September 2004 issue. It is a pretty interesting magazine that highlights a junkyard in each issue. This month it is Ferncliff Auto Parts near Charlottesville, Va. This is picture is on page 51, notice the lower left panel. The explanation is number 8 on page 52.

Its fast but i doubt its the worlds fastest. There was a thread not to long ago with a land speed fiero with a stretched nose and it goes around 240 (plus or minus).

Wait whoever said this, you can get your Fiero UP TO 220???? OMG thats frigin WAY faster then even Nascar speeds(roughly 190) That's insane man. Is there anyway to check who holds the record for the fastest Fiero of that year type & etc. and Fastest overall?

Is it still a Fiero when you completely tear it down and rebuild it with new parts?... ala front engine drag car or tube chassis? The only thing left that's "original" Fiero is probably a couple bodypanels. Not a flame but it would be pretty hard to say who's the fastest unless you set out some rules first. I'm sure R-Runner probably has the fastest IMSA Fiero but who has the fastest Street Legal one?

Ask that question again in June. I should have my Turbo Ecotec Fiero fully tuned by then. The motor is almost built, and will be completed by the end of the month, and it will be in the car by xmas, but tuning it will take awhile.
I'm only expecting 500HP at the most, but power to weight ratio is what matters, considering it will weigh in at 2400-2500 lbs, the outcome should be impressive.
Mathematical calculations with the gear ratio of a Getrag and the vehicle's weight put the quater mile time at 10.97 e.t.
For top speed, I'd swap my Isuzu back in. It has a smaller gear ratio number than the getrag, though it would need mods to handle the power from the motor.

I don't think I'll come anywhere near winning that one. I'm looking at about 400 HP/ 550 torque when I get the GT together, But I'll most likely be redlining 4th gear at 150 or so. I could go nuts on the engine and use shaft rockers, and solid lifters, but really, do i really need to go over 5000rpm with this much torque? Personally, I don't think so.

I think the comment "world's fastest" was a bit of hype. Not supposed to be taken seriously. I thought the longitudinally mounted 455 would be a lot more interesting.
Where are the Va and wV guys at? Do they know this guy?

Not really, Nascar cars AVERAGE 190+ (that includes making the turns ). top speeds are way over that. Fastest Nascar LAP AVERAGE is still Bill Elliot from back in 86 i think. 212 + Mph. After Cale Yarbarough lost his windshield and flipped at Daytona doing over 215 (i think), they started using restrictor plates and other tricks to whoa them down. Non restrictor plate cars are easily capable of over 230 on a straight. Watch the TV on board stats during the next large track race. Youll see speeds over 200-210 of almost everycar.

Power to weight has nothing to do with top speed. But it has everything to do with how fast you get there. Your frontal area and drag coefficient vs. HP dictate top speed.
The world's fastest fiero is the bonneville salt flat runner that i believe hit like 300 mph or somewhere around there....it is stretched to about 2 times the length of regular fiero and it has been posted on here numerous times but can't think of where the pic is but i am sure some of the archive searchers can find it for you...

Sorry.... Just got back to the post. When I posted the last time I was in a hotel room on business. Puck, I know which one you are talking about. In fact I was talking to Paul Vanderley a few weeks ago about his passes at the Salt Flats (another story for another time) and he mentioned that the fiero you mentioned (the stretched one) was parked in the "quarenteened" area for class rule verification. Reading between the lines he thinks this car had just set a new worlds record for it's class (which I would like to find out). I have no idea how fast it went. Again, the "fastest fiero" is purely based on how you classify it. This car was stretched BIG TIME.
As for my car, I have only ever had it to about 160 mph, but that was due to not having enough road. I was able to hit that speed in about 3/4 of a mile with a passenger (extra 200 lb) and slowing for a 50 deg. turn in the middle of the run. The calculated top speed of my car is 221 mph. This was determined on a computer program taking into account frontal area, rolling resistance, drag, etc. The hp / weight ratio doesn't mean much in terms of top speed, just acceleration. Since I have the narrow back (not the IMSA wide body) I have less frontal area and that helps for speed. The stock wheel base, on the other hand, makes for a potentially unstable ride. Some day if I get the chance I will prove that it can go well over 200 mph. I still have plans for an additional 55+ hp still naturally asperated. I do think (I don't want to sound big headed...) that is probably is the fastest IMSA since I am running 145 HP more than the GTO cars of the day. There may be some one out there who has build one faster. I'm happy with what I have. (still need more HP, naturally. )
I would be very interested in finding out who has the fastest streetable, stock space frame, fiero. I think it would be possible to get a "factory" car to hit 190mph or maybe even 200. I often thought that a longitudinal 4.3 built up with a porsche tranny (which will fit in a stock set up) would be an excellent candidate for a "supercar on a budget" and may be able to get the top speed honors.
For those who asked for pictures... this is what is under the body.
