maybe somebody should inform him DeLorean left GM in the early 70s, way before the Fiero was concieved

Actually, its not way off. Delorean dreamed of a Spaceframe, mid engine car back in the 60s, but GM wouldn't go for it. He had lots of designs for it, and a lot of them were incorporated into the DMC cars. So the initial concept can be attributed to Delorean, but it was Hulki and his crew that made it a reality and got GM to make it.

The Fiero initial designs started in 1978. If you have ever looked at the interior of an 1981-1983 DMC Delorean you'll notice it looks an awful lot like a rough design of the Fiero interior. High console, Pod for gauges, etc. Don't forget that John D left Chevy in 1973 but stayed in contact with GM as a design consultant until 1980 when he opened the doors of DMC. They may have used some of John D's design/styling cues when they designed the Fiero, But I don't think he had any direct contact with the Fiero program.

I thought the fiero was first put on paper in 1969.
