Hey,

Just got a 99K 1987 5spd at the junkyard last Friday the 13th before the hurricane hit.

It looks recently re-built, with new throw-out bearing, axel seals, VSS, shift cables (cut by the yard when pulling it)

Me thinkith tha it is a GETRAG!!

Reason for thinking that is...... It has a 1/4" thick metal plate on the rear. It looks as though the shift cables are routed from over & under, unlike my original 4spd. I also got the shifter & plate while I was there.

Only thing other than them cutting the shift cables before I got there was the also torched off one of the mounting brackets.

All of this & they pulled & cleaned it for me, for 250.00

Is this the elusive GETRAG?

John

if thats a steel plate, its a getrag. Good find. Too bad about the cables, your gonna need those. Was the car a V6? I assume it was.

I just had my spare getrag delivered by the UPS man about an hour ago. Never hurts to have 2.
edit:
If its a V6, 87 and manual, its a getrag. No 4spds in 87. The 4cyl cars were an isuzu. The over under cables makes me think getrag too.

Hey Kohburn that cover actually covers the gears for fifth. The reverse gear is located internally.just food for thought isuzu's are my thing!

Thanks guys!

The STEEL Plate on the back is 1/4" or less thick. Stuck a magnet on it to be sure it was steel.
Came out of a 6cyl 87 SE.

Looking for another one now.
