I've got a buddy with an old 86 Celica that wants to race my 84SE Fiero. Any ideas on what I should expect? This is what I know so far (correct me if I'm wrong):
Celica---------------------Fiero 5-Speed------------------4-Speed 97hp-----------------------92hp 118torque---------------134torque and his apparently wieghs about 300 pounds less. (not 100% sure, but that's what he says)
Any ideas on what to expect?

I would expect the fiero to win based on the fact that it has more torque than the celica, the horsepower diff isn't that much, and I don't think it weighs less than the fiero.
Is his car a standard or an automatic ? Is yours standard? I Have a Motor Trend from 1992 and it puts the Celica GT conv. with a 130 HP engine and 140 lbs of torque at 9.8 sec. 0-60. So I would bet the 98 HP 1986 model is slower. The 84 Fiero SE will do 0-60 in about 11 sec (new)..

Well his car weighs about the same as our's do, he's just down a little bit on torque. Depending on what his gear ratios are and skill level of both of you to drive your cars. It will be a good race I bet.

The '92 Celica GT conv. weighs about 3000 lbs versus 2500-2600. The '92 cars weighed anywhere from about 2650-3200lbs, and from 103HP and 102Ft lbs of torque to 200HP and 200Ft lbs of torque.

I know the 1990 Celica All-Trac has 200 HP and 200 ft lbs of torque . You could be right about the 92' Conv. I was incorrect when I stated the road test was for a 92' conv. Celica. It was for a 91' Celica GT conv. with the 130 HP motor..
I think it would be a close race .

the all-trac is a different beast entirely...they cam w/ a 3S-GTE... the same engine that came in the 90-99 mr2 turbo... unless that celica has some work done you WILL win if you know when to shift and can shift fast enough
One way to find out, line up and race. If you lose the race, who cares really, its all in good fun. If friends go to watch, be sure to remind them that they should have time to go get a soda and come back by the time the 1/4 mile is over, in case they're thirsty..
