This would be a sweet swap. Just thinking the cost and time compared to the benifit would make it simply a "show" type of mod.

The service literature I've read says the FD is 3.91:1, but it's got a 0.62 6th gear. I really hope they fix 1st when they put it with the V6. 3.77 is WAY to much gear for anything with torque.

Hmm, thats bolt pattern isn't TOO different. Don't think it would take much more work than sticking a FWD trans on an SBC, and Archie has proven that can be done fairly easily.
I'm keen to hear more. I am curius about the torque rating as well as the axle angle. It looks like this tranny has the axle closer to the engine block than the stock Getrag. Also, what size shaft does it take?

that's a Suburu transmission. I was out at dock watching them get unloaded and they are WRX's with upgraded interior and upgrade susp. They have the same drive tran as WRX. They have saab badging. they are made in Japan.

?????????????
wow... were you smoking something down at the dock. The car you are refering to is the Saab 9-2x. It is based on the Impreza. The Saab 9-2X DOES NOT get the STi's 6spd or it's 2.5ltr 300hp engine.
Subaru's transmission look just like any other RWD cars transmission with the exception that they have 2 output shafts near the bellousing. Keep in mind Subaru isn't toting it's ""Symmetrical AWD" for no reason .
The Transmission I showed came right out of a 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero , it is a FWD car (Subaru's are AWD) The car was offered with a 6spd in the Aero and Arc versions. For 2005 it will not be a standard option , the tranny is being revamped and it will be offered as an option.
I have worked at a Subaru Dealership for the last 2 years , we also own a Saturn Saab dealership , 2 BMW dealerships , a Rover Delaership and a Jag dealership

Rest assured that the crank center to axle center is the same as on all other FWD GM cars. That distance was set over 25 years ago when GM introduced transverse FWD for economy cars. They've been stuck with it even since. Back then, no one ever considered that a FWD car would ever be a performance platform (they still don't get the idea of FWD performance), so the crank-axle distance was set for a nice compact drivetrain. As power levels rose, transmission design became harder and harder as the space for a strong transmission was limited by the spacing that had been decided on when FWD was for **** boxes and throw away cars. However, they couldn't increase that distance without redesigning the WHOLE model range. When a new chassis is designed, it has to conform to the existing powertrains. When a new powertrain is designed, it has to conform to existing chassis. So the 6 speed will have the same crank-axle distance as our tried and true HM 282's.
However, the 6 speed makes an important advancement over the HM282. The HM 282 is on 76mm input/output shaft centers, and the input shaft, output shaft, and axles are all on a straight line. By offsetting the output shaft up or down, it becomes possible to increase the shaft spacing and the strength of the transmission. The dual layshaft configuration does this naturally, as well as having a very short length.

I was going to mate it to a 2.8 Aluminum block v6 becasue thats what Ihave on hand and it's the easiest to take to work and try. This will be mated to a northstar eventually. It's on the list of things to do. I will be mating up the aluminum 6 to the tranny on tuesday to see how close they are.
