Hi Guys,

I was searching for a high idle RPM issue on my 85GT. It was not the EGR tube as i dont have an EGR system. I thought it was a vaccum leak somewhere.

But as it turned out my AIC was WAY out of tolerance.
I reset it as per Pontaic Service Manual.

Distance from Throttle Body mating surface to end of Pintle = 28mm.
Mine was 36mm !.

You just have to gentle push it back in, giving it a little wiggle side to side at the same time. I also cleaned it with carb cleaner and cleaned out the throttle body so it now looks like new in there.

Now my idle is great, rock solid at 900rpm. Wow its so much nicer to drive and to pull away now.

So if you have high idle, check your AIC valve length !!.

It was probably all the cleaning which solved the problem. The IAC valve is adjusted by the ECM by 'stepping' it in and out, depending on how fast or slow the car is idling.
