So my friend just bought this 1986 GT not too long ago... We laugh at the little 5" woofer and the "Performance Sound" up by the lights.. it doesn't seem to do anything. What is it SUPPOSE to do? He just put in a CD player, so it might do nothing at all, but it didn't do anything OEM..

It's probably hooked up wrong. To use an aftermarket deck with it you must hook some wire up to the power antenna wire or somesuch- look in the archives, you will find all the info you need there.

As for how it sounds, it makes a HUGE difference, so don't laugh at it just yet (unless you have an aftermarket sub mounted somewhere, then just sell the damn performance sound system). I have it hooked up to my aftermarket CD player with the Rodney Dickman sub and love it. Now I just need new speakers.

Something has to be installed wrong or broken. This feature makes a huge differance is sound "fullness" in the car. It is one of the cooler features I installed in my car.

If you do not want it, pull the system and sell it in the mall, worth a little over $100 if it is complete.

I used Rodneys replacement speaker, and there is a huge difference. It doesn't shake the car, it wasn't intended to. But it does add A LOT compared to when the slider is in the off position.

I have the Pre. sound and I have to turn it down or the bass sounds sorta
booomy and muddy. Will a new speaker help? It just doesnt sound crisp enough to suit me. I do have the CD conversion.

I don't notice a difference when I slide the "performance sound" bar, either. I think I need a new sub-woofer, though, if that's what the problem is. Other than that, the system sounds great with the Kenwood 4 x 10s I bought a couple of years ago.

I can tell a difference, now that its hooked up right and getting power. Its definatly a fuller sound. The 4x10s and 4x6s just don't do much for bass, so the sub really helps. It won't rattle your windows or anything, but its actually too much if you have the slider all the way up and the volume low. With higher volume it sounds good.
