too bad it's illegal. you need reflectors on the side, and they kinda look ugly. anyone see any smaller ones from other cars that would work well? i was thinking like the VW jettas, they're only about an inch long i think

That must be a canada thing about reflectors. Here you only need reflectors and/or side marker lites on trucks and trailers. Cars dont have to have anything except front headlites (if driven at nite ..), brake lites, license lite and the left rear tail lite.

That can't be right...If I recall all US cars have needed to have side marker lights since 1968. It doesn't always appear that way because the wrap around lights satisfy the requirement as well. I don't think you can find a US car without them that was made since '68.

I wanted to keep this on the downlow for awhile, but I guess Ill go ahead and tell now for the sake of the thread. I am shaving the handles on X at this moment, and I have one piece of trim made for it already. I am making side trim that will go right over the area where the door handle is now. I am also filling the handle recession. It will just be one solid bar of trim down the door, totally smooth. And best of all, I plan on making a kit that is a bolt in deal for fieros, from a modified shaved door handle kit, the side trim, and a plastic piece to fill the handle recession, ready to go. Should be finished next week sometime, and "supersecret spy pics" will be unveiled

easy to shave the handles. Fill in the indent where your hand goes, Then get some extra pieces of door trim from a parts fiero. Cut the extra pieces to fit in the space where the actual door handle was, then bond it in the gap where the handle is with like an expoxy. Sand any of the expoxy that seaped out down so its smooth with the rest of the side trim, then spray black to conceal the modification. Nobody will ever know the handle was there. I believe this is the method Archie used on the stinger
as for that smoothed car... i can honestly say i dont really like it. The coops look funky on it now and the crease like where the trim was it kind of weird especially on the nose

Actually, Archie cut out the door handle section of the door panel. He grafted a section out of another door panel. Then he took two pieces of moulding and fiberglassed them together. Beautiful job, IMO.

This is how I plan on shaving the handles on The Rat. Cut the recess out and use a piece of door panel to fill the area in and glass it from the back side. Same with the moulding. I'm making the moulding longer to go over the door handle area. It will look like one piece of moulding when done, grphed together from the backside. A set of poppers and bye bye handles!

Man you guys sure know how to keep a guy up to his neck in custom work I MUST do that to my car now! I spent three hours "shaving" the moldings from my rendering and then updating all the different size and format copies of it for my marketing materials. Now I just have to spend countless hours shaving the real moldings from the car!
Actually I am glad this came up when it did because the only real difference for me is that I have to make two fiberglass fenders with all the other parts I was planning to do. The only original parts left on my car will be the SMC hood, roof, notchback 1/4 clip, and deck lid; and all of those will be modified.
I was going to share the revised rendering but I can't get it uploaded to my free picture sharing/hosting thingy, and I don't feel like messing with my site tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Well i shaved my door handles in a diff way i took out the little raised plastic part in the middle of the handle and filled it in with bondo and it looks really clean with the round moldings.
