Unless I ask more to subset the cost for shipping. I sold a pair of black fenders to Oslo. I was only expecting shipping to be $15, boy was I ever wrong. I had to build a custom box out of 3 boxes to hold the fenders. The box was 49" tall (Fenders are 4 feet in length), 11" wide, and 30" in length (The box was in an L shape, over 1000 inches of tape was used, postal tape on the inside, and clear tape on the outside for the most part). The only company that would ship it was Greyhound. UPS, USPS, nor fedex would ship it, and it cost $31 to ship, boy am I ever upset. Oslo you have a PM. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I forgot who, but someone shipped me a rear cover when I needed one and pretty much wrapped it in cardboard and tapped like crazy with my address on it. UPS took it and think it was roughly $15-20 to ship, the guy was from down south somewhere.

Yea, after I had the entire box built and the fenders packed in, my dad said to just wrap them in cardboard. I didn't wanna waste anymore time redoing everything, so I left it.

Bob Parker at Kick Hill must be the all time master for wraping Fiero parts. So far, I have received an 88 cradle, 88 front cross member, V6 flywheel all simply bubble-wrapped & taped. UPS delivered the cradle & cross member, USPS delivered the flywheel. Boxed items included an oil pan & misc smaler items.
Over the next year, I will be having a "boat load" of Fiero parts to sell as I part out my other 5 cars but the packaging & shipping have me stumped.

Sometimes they screw you on the "L" shaped box...by measuring the circumference. You are better off making a huge cube. I also found out its very subjective what rate they charge you.
But still $31 to ship a fender doesn't sound too out of line.

I had a fender and an 88 coupe front spoiler (folded in half) shipped to me. Was wraped in heavy black trash bags and taped. Came in USPS at less than $9 IIRC.

You got lucky, a cover is "over max size" and due an extra $50 charge, along with the $5 for being over 5' long, plus the freight for "oversize 2" and the weight to boot!
I have regular UPS pick-up at work and have unfortunately learned these rules the hard way.

Your box must have been oversized. I shipped a fender and a door pannel from Pa to Maine for $20 As I remember I had to fight to keep it under the max size but I did and shipping was reasonable.
FYI Lately I am finding FedEx ground cheaper than UPS

I've shipped coolant tubes FedEx, Facias (front and rear) Greyhound. The buyer agreed to pay shipping based on the estimate from the carriers online calculator and I either made a couple of bucks or ate a couple of bucks on shipping. Morale of the story, pack it, measure it, weigh it if you can, get a price to their zip, and get an confirmation from the buyer that they will cover the estimated cost.
Try boxing a facia or coolant tubes if you think fenders are a PITA. Live and learn.

I shipped once 4 rims/tires and underestimated the odd round shape and overweight charges. But overall it was about $20 more. The great honest buyer covered it and sent a check after receipt of shipment
I know it's not my business, but I hope you don't expect him to pay more for the shipping now. It wasn't his mistake.
I'm only saying this because that sounds like what you may be thinking...especially since you told him he has a PM now.
Oh no, I wasn't expecting anything anymore, it was my fault, I sent him a PM explaining where to pick everything up. Oslo has offered to send some more for shipping, without me asking at all. In the future if I ship things this size, i'll just wrap them in carboard, I seriously never thought of that beforehand, because I didn't want the parts hurt. Even though the fiero's fenders can pretty much take a lot.

that's cool...yeah, personally, if I knew that had happened to someone who was mailing me something, I'd offer to pay the xtra shipping also...we all make mistakes
