i have noticed that when it gets around 50* F that my car is harder to start and the colder it get the harder it is. could this be because of the oil? i hav 10W-40 in it right now. should i put in 5w-30? this engine has 96,600 miles on it and right now it has a can of restore in it. btw its about 82 right now so i want to change my oil this weekend so that i dont have to change it in the middle of january when its around 20-30.

I'm running 5w-30 in both of mine. 72,000 miles & 114,000 miles. No oil consumption & they start just fine a 10 below. If you go to a lower weight oil for the first time, just watch your pressure gauge for a while.

I used to run 20W50 in all of my little sports cars. I put it in my girlfriend's Celica. One cold winter morning the car wouldn't even turn over! That's when I switched back to 10W30.

At that temp the oil should not cause slow cranking.
