Ok. As the title says, I want a new engine in my FORMULA. I'm seriously thinking about an older Caddy engine. When I searched for an older Caddy, with a 4.9, I came up with the engine, I think. It is a 500 ci BB. It was in the Caddys in the late 70s early 80s and I can get into one really cheap! Whats more, it is in a front wheel drive car, so my question is this-

If I have the frame from the caddy welded onto the subframe of a fiero, is their any reason it should not be a direct subframe exchange?

I assume you're talking about an elderly Eldorado. While those were front-drive, they didn't mount the engine transversely. To fit that into a Fiero, you'd need to stretch the frame - that drivetrain is HUGE.

That engine can be put in a Fiero, but it would have to be mounted longitudinally.See what Cardealer did with a small block in his car.The only thing is the Caddy is a torque monster but doesn't have much horsepower.

There is a pic of a 500 Caddy powered Fiero on the forum somewhere. I think it was an Indy.

And I dont think you have to stretch the chassis, but you would lose your trunk.

Check out Fieroaddiction.com for info on longitudinal mounting.

But dont waste an 88 chassis. Because you WILL destroy the handling anyway.
