I've noticed that most other people also use the Edelbrock foam element triangular
air filter with their SBC/carb swaps. Although a very poor filter, I was
also forced to use it for a wile until I finally located a paper element
filter that would fit the confines under a stock decklid. This unit
isn't even listed in most catalogs, but it's available from Summit
under part # HLY-120-147. the complete assy is about $33.00
A small amount needs to be trimmed off the filter housing neck when used
on a hi-rise manifold like the Performer RPM, but with most other
manifolds this unit works fine right out of the box. (in fact after I
sandblast and paint it black, it will be "perfect" )

Cheers,

I used a 'bonnet' from a V8 Dodge Dakota on top of ny Road demon carb on a Performer manifold, I could then use a conical K&N placed under the left engine vent. Works well but its a tight fit.

This is exactly what I want to do. I was going to try the 4.9 Caddy setup and plumb it to the side rocker scoop so it can suck cool air.

I'm using Holley's billet aluminum filters! I couldn't stand using that triangle foam POS! It's about 1" higher that the foamy but my replica allows that clearance, not sure that the stock fiero will.

Nope ... Hi-Tek its stock form will not fit under the hood.
(Even with a Mopar scoop for added room.

Trimmed quite a bit , YES ,than there is the issue with the restricted airflow and the actual element getting rather hot ... not so good for a cold air loving engine like mine.
But makes a heck for a "show only" air cleaner, ... saves me from having to detail the carb

I bought this exact filter but with the N2O plate there was no way it would fit under the stock decklid, so I sent it back.

I really liked the look!

I am going to use an ATI (Procharger) carb hat (bonnet) and run 3" stainless steel tube to the DS wheel well and a cone filter.

I hope carb bonnet will arrive this week so I can take some pictures. Until then the edelbrock triangular filter is being used.

I used a carb cover that looks like an air cleaner from an early 90s Grand Cherokee, got a PepBoys chrome intake kit for a Honda, fit the connector tube from the cover inlet to the tube running along the firewall. Then used the Jeep ducting to attach a K&N cone filter inside the driver side scoop. Worked perfectly, looked clean and fed fresh cool air to carb. Total cost was like $35. I tried the foam Edlebrock which went up instantly in flames, and the one you have. It still hit the inside of hood under torque, bending or partly crushing it.

Here's what I did:

It is a 600 CFM Holley on a Holley Street Dominator intake with a thick (3/8"?) base gasket and a 10" Holley air filter. It fits under the hood with about an inch to spare. The engine is in the lower mounting holes on the front plate. I have a Cadillac top hat that I was going to connect to the factory air filter, but it looks to be too tall.

Tina, so you've experienced a heat problem with the Aluminum as well! What you stated above is correct... great for show, not the best choice for all-out response! Worst of all, it's pricey, probably why it's still on....

here's rodgers fix

Thanks for posting that link. lots of interesting stuff there to concider.
I also looked at the remote idea when I first did my 350 swap a year ago, but decided it was just too restrictive for the more serious horsepower I had in mind down the road. for a ~300 horsepower setup I think that approach is extreamly good however.
Now I'm building a ~425 HP 377 (400 block 350 crank) so I really want more volume of cool air.
It may be late winter or spring before I get there, but I plan to make a decklid scoop that will be a bolt on for the 84 deck, and adaptable with some cutting of a later (notchback) decklid. I'll be making a mold at that time, so.... stay tuned. The idea I have rolling around in my head is to basicly turn my front declklid scoop (see below) inside out. I've done a couple cardboard mockups of a rear scoop, but I've been too involved in the 377 buildup, and other stuff, to get back to it. too many toys... to little time ;(.

Cheers,
Russ Camp
